The contestants wore elaborate, meticulously designed dresses, with luxurious silk and satin materials and delicately attached gemstone details. Designer Nguyen Minh Tuan said that 8 contestants from countries such as Costa Rica, Samoa, Gibraltar, China, Cayman Islands, Croatia, US Virgin Islands and Ecuador wore his costumes in this competition.

However, the evening gown competition did not receive high praise from many audiences. The time allotted for each contestant was too short, making it difficult for the performances to fully demonstrate their skills. The contestants were divided into groups of 6 and took turns on stage, performing only when the MC mentioned the country’s name and then quickly moving backstage. The fact that many contestants appeared at the same time reduced the attention on each costume, making it difficult for the audience to focus on the special details of each dress.
This is understandable as the livestream program lasted longer than expected, due to the combination of the national costume competition and the semi-final night, forcing the organizers to make adjustments. As a result, the evening gown competition became quite rushed.

In the evening gown competition, Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen wore a dress inspired by the Scorpio zodiac sign by designer Do Long. The dress was made from mesh combined with imitation leather, studded with light-catching stones and sparkling sequins. However, the limited performance time made it difficult for Ky Duyen to fully show off the outfit. Although standing in the center, she only had time to pose and move quickly to the wings, so the audience did not have enough time to admire the dress.
An international news site commented that this year's Miss Universe production was unimpressive. Miss Grand International "surpassed" Miss Universe by being broadcast live for free while still having superior production quality.
Miss Universe 2024 was also criticized for keeping contestants "locked" in hotels, constantly promising great things but failing to deliver a program that was worthy of investment. The semi-final night was criticized as a mediocre program contrary to initial expectations.
Miss Universe 2024 also disappointed with its failure to provide contestants with an opportunity to experience Mexican culture. In particular, the fact that Miss Universe platforms promote the image of the president and CEO too much makes viewers uncomfortable. Instead, they asked the organizers to focus on the contestants - the audience.
