The Korean Medical Association (KMA), South Korea's largest lobbying group for doctors, has rejected a government proposal to give universities autonomy in deciding on medical student enrollment quotas from 50% to 100% in the 2025 academic year.
According to KMA, the government's announcement is an attempt to address the current situation but is not a fundamental solution to address the current health crisis.
Previously, the South Korean government accepted proposals from national university presidents, allowing all 32 medical colleges and universities nationwide, which allocate 2,000 new medical admission slots, to cut up to 50% of the originally allocated quota in 2025.
