Due to unsuitable climate and distance from transit points, Tanh Linh district plans not to develop dragon fruit growing areas in the near future...
Tanh Linh is a district that does not have a plan for dragon fruit development. Currently, this type of tree is grown spontaneously by people in their home gardens or converted on ineffective crop land.
Recently, the District People's Committee said: Through statistical inspection by the end of 2021, in Tanh Linh area, there were 112 households growing dragon fruit with an area of over 90 hectares. However, at the end of 2023, the whole district only had about 20 households participating in growing dragon fruit with about 10 hectares. The reason for the sharp decline in the area of dragon fruit cultivation is due to the high input costs in recent times and the appearance of many pests and diseases, while the selling price of dragon fruit is low, leading to losses, so people switched to growing other crops.
Furthermore, in Tanh Linh area, there is no dragon fruit processing facility because the production output is still small and scattered, mainly consumed locally and by some purchasing agents in neighboring areas (such as Ham Thuan Nam and Ham Tan districts). Or households with dragon fruit gardens contact the purchasing agent owners themselves to sell the products...
According to the orientation in the coming time, Tanh Linh district has identified 3 main crops to focus on developing: rice, rubber and cashew, in addition to durian as well as some other industrial and fruit trees. Regarding dragon fruit, only the existing 10 hectares will be maintained, not further developing this crop area because the climate here is not suitable, far from transit points, so it is not included in the local main crop structure.
