Do not be subjective, prepare for every step of organizing high school graduation exams

That was the note of Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son during a working session with Hau Giang province on the organization of the 2024 high school graduation exam on the afternoon of June 11.

Mr. Dong Van Thanh, Chairman of Hau Giang Provincial People's Committee, said that Hau Giang province belongs to examination cluster No. 64, with 7,282 candidates registered to take the high school graduation exam in 2024. The locality has arranged 20 examination sites with 320 examination rooms, established a Steering Committee and approved documents, and organized specific personnel assignments to serve the examination work. Up to now, the province is also focusing on organizing training, guiding examination regulations and examination organization procedures according to the schedule.

Sharing more, Mr. Dong Van Thanh said that from a province with a low starting point, the encouraging sign is that the rate of schools meeting national standards in Hau Giang has risen to rank 2nd in the Mekong Delta. However, the province's top difficulty is that it is still short of more than 600 teachers at all levels (due to lack of recruitment sources). Many schools still lack classrooms and functional rooms. Hau Giang hopes that the Minister of Education and Training will advise on supplementing and amending a number of articles in the government's decree. Among them is the proposal not to implement the policy of reducing the number of civil servants in the education sector by 10% according to the roadmap.

Particularly for Hau Giang, the Minister acknowledged the great efforts in universalizing primary education, mobilizing children to go to school, the high school graduation rate, attracting teachers, and the number of schools meeting national standards. The province is not large, the scale of schools is not large, but the quality of education has many positive signs.

Regarding the 2024 high school graduation exam, Minister Nguyen Kim Son commented that Hau Giang has made careful preparations and fully equipped support facilities. What the Minister noted is that although the number of candidates taking the exam is not large, Hau Giang is not subjective or distracted. It is necessary to have a backup plan for all stages, especially printing and copying exam papers. In the long term, it is recommended that the province should have an investment orientation and build a specialized area for testing activities (which is currently deteriorating) so that the organization of the exams next year can be better.

On the same morning, the delegation of the Ministry of Education and Training inspected the exam preparation work at Vi Thanh High School (Vi Thanh City) and Tam Vu High School (Chau Thanh A District). The delegation inspected the area where exam papers, test papers, and candidate supplies were stored; inspected the exam room, waiting room, and backup exam room. Minister Nguyen Kim Son noted the plan to support teachers and students during the exam, and unusual weather situations during the rainy and stormy season. In addition, attention was paid to exam security, exam area security, and high-tech fraud prevention.
