On January 16, information from Ho Chi Minh City Police said that they had just issued a decision to prosecute and execute an order to temporarily detain 6 people, including leaders and former leaders of the Vietnam Register; leaders and officers of the River Ship Department - Vietnam Register for the crime of "Abusing position and power while performing official duties".
The six defendants include: Nguyen Vu Hai (Deputy Director of the Vietnam Register), Bui Quoc Hung (Head of the River Ship Department), Dau Ngoc Binh (Deputy Head of the River Ship Department), Phan Huy Liem (inspector of the River Ship Department), Vu Van Son (inspector of the River Ship Department) and Tran Ky Hinh (former Director of the Vietnam Register).
As for defendant Tran Ky Hinh, on January 16, 2023, he was prosecuted by the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department for "Receiving bribes" in a case related to violations in the field of road registration.
The above decisions and orders have been approved by the People's Procuracy at the same level. The Investigation Police Agency has searched the residences and workplaces of the defendants in accordance with the law.
It is known that this is an extended investigation process into violations and negative aspects related to inland waterway inspection activities occurring at the Vietnam Register and the Registration Sub-Departments.
The investigation agency believes that the above defendants committed violations related to the assessment and granting of capacity assessments for facilities that build, convert, repair and restore inland waterway vehicles.
Regarding the case, at the end of December 2023, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department of Investigation prosecuted 9 defendants. Of which, 6 defendants were prosecuted for violations related to the assessment and certification of workshop capacity, including Do Trung Hoc (former Head of the River Ship Department), Le Ngoc Tu (inspector of the River Ship Department) for the crime of "Receiving bribes"; Nguyen Xuan Hao (inspector of the Long An Register Department), Vu Tien Thuat (Director of the Red River Ship Service Company Limited) for the crime of "Giving bribes"; Pham Hoai Ha (Director of the Long An Register Department) for the crime of "Bribery brokerage" and Nguyen Thanh Le (Director of Vietship Shipbuilding Industry Design and Consulting Joint Stock Company) for the crime of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".
Thus, regarding violations and negativity in the field of inland waterway inspection, up to now, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department has prosecuted a total of 35 defendants for the crimes of "Giving bribes, Receiving bribes, Bribery brokerage, Fraudulent appropriation of property, Abusing positions and powers while performing official duties".
