Prosecution and arrest of commune party secretary and accountant for embezzlement of assets

On the evening of May 30, news from the An Giang Provincial Police Department said that the Provincial Police Department's Investigation Police Department had issued a decision to prosecute the case, prosecute the accused, and execute the order to temporarily detain Tran Huu Duc, Secretary and Chairman of the People's Committee of My Hiep Commune (former Secretary and Chairman of the People's Committee of Tan My Commune, Cho Moi District) and Phan Thai Thanh, accountant of the People's Committee of Tan My Commune, to investigate the act of embezzlement of property. The decisions were approved by the People's Procuracy of the same level.

The An Giang Provincial Police Department also simultaneously searched 10 locations, including the residences and workplaces of the two suspects and three others. Thereby, they seized many documents and evidence related to the act of creating fake settlement documents, appropriating the state budget with an amount of more than 550 million VND, when Duc and Thanh worked in Tan My commune.

Initially, Duc and Thanh confessed to their crimes and revealed the actions of many other related people.

Previously, in February 2023, the Investigation Police Agency of An Giang Province arrested 9 suspects including: Ngo Hoang Hieu, Deputy Chief Inspector of the province (former Chairman of the People's Committee of Cho Moi District); Vu Minh Thao, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Cho Moi District; Nguyen Hong Vien, Chairman of the Inspection Committee of Cho Moi District Party Committee; Le Quoc Dien, Chairman of the People's Committee of Long Dien A Commune; Luu Van Khon, Chairman of the People's Committee of Kien Thanh Commune; Nguyen Thuy Trang, accountant of the People's Committee of Hoa An Commune and 3 other suspects who are business owners to handle the act of embezzlement of assets.

After a period of verification and collection of documents and evidence related to the case, An Giang Provincial Police arrested Duc and Thanh.

Currently, the An Giang Provincial Police Department continues to investigate and handle the case according to the provisions of law.
