When will Can Tho 2 Bridge start construction?

On April 17, Can Tho City People's Committee had a working session with My Thuan Project Management Board on a number of contents related to the research report on the route and control points on the Can Tho 2 Bridge project route and the approach roads at both ends of the bridge.

The starting point of Can Tho 2 bridge project will connect with the end point of My Thuan - Can Tho expressway.

The project is the final piece of the North-South expressway in the eastern part of the Mekong Delta region.

The bridge will connect My Thuan - Can Tho expressway and the North - South expressway in the East, Can Tho - Ca Mau section (also known as Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway).

From there, completing the national highway backbone, ensuring continuous, high-speed transportation of large volumes of passengers and goods.

According to the pre-feasibility study report, Can Tho 2 Bridge is expected to be built downstream of Hau River, about 4.5km from the existing Can Tho Bridge.

The starting point of the project connects to Cha Va intersection in Vinh Long province (the end point of My Thuan - Can Tho expressway). The end point connects to IC2 intersection in Can Tho city (the starting point of Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project).

The project is over 14km long. Of which, the main bridge and approach spans are over 2.7km long, with four lanes. The main span is expected to be a cable-stayed bridge structure.

The total investment is expected to be about 19,782 billion VND from the State budget. The project will start construction in 2026 and be completed in 2030.

According to information from the My Thuan Project Management Board, at the meeting, the Can Tho City People's Committee basically agreed on the route plan, the design scale of four complete lanes, the road route separates the railway, and the main bridge clearance is similar to the existing Can Tho bridge.

At the same time, there are some suggestions related to the design of medium and small bridges on the route, research on the viaduct connecting the intersection... to ensure synchronous connection with the local traffic infrastructure planning.
