Peace of mind on the road Throughout the training process of the athletes, after Vietnam won an official spot to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics, the leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Department of Physical Education and Sports directly worked with each coaching staff right at the training sites to grasp the professional preparation. The spirit is easily recognized in the athletes. They all affirmed that they are determined to prepare the best to participate in the most important sports arena in the world. Vietnam has 16 athletes participating in the 2024 Paris Olympics. "All athletes participating in this Olympics are excellent and highly determined, we hope that each person will have the best results to conquer the competition results. Above all, they strive to surpass themselves", representatives of the two High Performance Sports Departments 1 and 2 (Department of Physical Education and Sports) discussed. According to the schedule, the Departure Ceremony of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation is the decisive moment for everyone to be ready to go to France. It is expected that on July 23, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation will travel to France to begin participating in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Aspiration to conquer There have been many comparisons made between Vietnamese sports and other countries in Southeast Asia regarding the number of athletes who have qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics. The leaders of the Department of Physical Training and Sports have analyzed that we are focusing highly on the official competition and the athletes are in the preparation stage to have the right form when the Olympics start. The goal of Vietnamese sports is to strive to win medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Four years ago, we participated in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (Japan) with 18 athletes and set a goal of winning medals. However, we did not achieve medals in Japan. This time, the aspiration to conquer the Olympics of Vietnamese sports is not absent. However, the opportunities that come to us all lie in the ability to predict, not in the ability to hold 100% of the ability to succeed. In a professional analysis in June 2024 before the press, a representative of the Department of Physical Education and Sports said that some teams are expected to achieve good results such as shooting, archery, boxing, and weightlifting. In particular, two shooters Trinh Thu Vinh and Le Thi Mong Tuyen are expected to approach the best results to enter the finals of their shooting events. The aspiration to win an Olympic medal is what all 16 Vietnamese athletes are aiming for. However, we are not too optimistic because based on the actual ability and professional level of Vietnamese athletes, the managers understand which sport and which event has the best chance of competing. In order to focus all efforts on professional preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympics, Vietnam has sent many players from the swimming, cycling, boxing, weightlifting, and shooting teams to train abroad. Some teams that train in Vietnam to hone their best form are archery, badminton, rowing, canoeing, and judo. In the squad for the 2024 Paris Olympics, Vietnamese sports only have athletes who have participated in the previous Olympics: Nguyen Thuy Linh (badminton), Nguyen Huy Hoang (swimming), and Do Thi Anh Nguyet (archery). Among the coaches for the 2024 Paris Olympics, we only have expert Park Chung-gun (shooting), who was a member of the team that won the Gold and Silver Medals at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics (Brazil). Therefore, everyone understands that the squad of Vietnamese sports coming to the Olympics in France this time has a majority of newcomers, experiencing the Olympic arena for the first time. “The Olympics is a place where competition is fierce. All athletes participating are the best in their category and through the Olympic qualifying tournaments, we understand how fierce the competition is. But when competing in the Olympics, the competition is even fiercer. Every athlete from any country who wins an Olympic medal makes history for that country's sports" - athlete Do Thi Anh Nguyet once shared her feelings when preparing to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
