Khanh Son district has a large ethnic minority population, and the lives of the people are still difficult. To reach the district center, there is only one road, Provincial Road 9. The route passes through complex mountainous terrain, often subject to landslides, so it must be regularly maintained, repaired, and upgraded. Currently, the entire route has been widened from 3.5m to 5.5m, the road surface is paved with asphalt concrete, creating favorable conditions for people to travel.
In addition, roads in the district have also been repaired and upgraded. For example, the Ba Cum Bac - Ba Cum Nam route, phase 1, with a total investment of 14.5 billion VND, starting from Suoi Lon bridge (Hon Gam village, Ba Cum Nam commune) to the end point intersecting with Provincial Road 9 (Suoi Da village, Ba Cum Bac commune), with a total length of 5km, has been put into use since the beginning of 2023. Thanks to that, the distance from the center of Ba Cum Nam commune to the center of Ba Cum Bac commune has been shortened by 7km (following the old road is 12km).
In addition to meeting the travel needs of the people, this road also contributes to promoting the socio-economic development of the two communes by opening up opportunities for agricultural and forestry production development on an area of 400 hectares, with more than 3,500 ethnic minorities benefiting. Mr. Bo Bo Thuyen - a resident of Hon Gam village shared: My family has 1 hectare of bananas in the upper Suoi Lon area. Before, when this road did not exist, people had a hard time carrying bananas from the fields to the commune center to sell. Now, the road is open, motorbikes run to the fields, and agricultural vehicles come to the place to buy, so it is very convenient.
In 2023, Khanh Son implemented the Project to invest in the construction of the Son Lam - Thanh Son inter-commune road. This is one of the projects to meet the urgent needs of local people, helping to complete the bridge and road system connecting the two communes; implementing a level III traffic project with a total route length of about 5.7km, a 3.5m wide cement concrete road surface, a 6.5m wide roadbed, according to the standards of a level V mountainous road; total investment of 79 billion VND.
Mr. Cao Minh Vy - Vice Chairman of Khanh Son District People's Committee said: The whole district has more than 20,000 ethnic minorities, accounting for more than 70% of the district's population, mainly Raglai people. Previously, the lives of people in the district faced many difficulties, transportation was not convenient, especially roads to production areas... Thanks to the attention of the Party and State, in recent years, many roads serving production and people's lives have been invested synchronously, helping people travel and transport agricultural products conveniently.
In Khanh Vinh district, in recent years, Khanh Hoa province has also focused on investing in upgrading the transportation system. Up to now, all roads leading to the commune centers have been concreted, paved, and cars can go all the way. The main traffic routes are provincial roads that have been upgraded and expanded.
According to Mr. Van Ngoc Huong, Chairman of Khanh Vinh District People's Committee, Khanh Vinh district has 52km of national highway; 63km of provincial road; more than 88km of rural road (inter-district). Up to now, thanks to the attention of the province, the district's traffic infrastructure has been basically completed, creating favorable conditions for people to travel, contributing to the local socio-economic development. In particular, when the road connecting Khanh Son and Khanh Vinh districts is built, it will be even more convenient for connecting trade, cultural exchange and tourism between the two localities.
In addition, from the capital of the National Target Program 1719, Khanh Vinh district has actively invested in essential infrastructure to serve production and life in ethnic minority and mountainous areas in 13 communes and towns of the district. As a result, in 2022 and 2023, the district invested 14km of roads in production areas with about 2,100 households directly benefiting, of which 80% are ethnic minorities.
In addition, the district also invested in a centralized water supply project in Khanh Trung commune, providing water for more than 200 households; invested in supporting water for 54 households living in extremely disadvantaged communes. Thanks to that, the traffic infrastructure is synchronously connected between production areas, helping people to travel and transport goods conveniently, contributing to increasing income, improving the material and spiritual life of the people.
"Thanks to infrastructure investment, the awareness and actions of ethnic minorities have changed significantly. People have focused on investing in production, limiting their reliance on the State," Mr. Huong added.
According to the report of the Khanh Hoa Provincial Ethnic Committee, in 2022 and 2023, the province invested in building 83 new essential works in extremely difficult areas, including 71 rural traffic works. At the same time, many traffic routes in extremely difficult areas were maintained and repaired. To date, 43 works have been completed and put into use with a total investment of nearly 100 billion VND.
From the policy of promoting infrastructure investment in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, localities have developed plans and formed specialized production areas, such as: Khanh Son district has a durian growing area of 2,300 hectares; Khanh Vinh district has a green-skinned grapefruit growing area of about 700 hectares; some areas intercrop purple sugarcane, banana, rambutan, mangosteen and raise goats, cows, poultry... in the two mountainous districts of Khanh Son and Khanh Vinh, creating commodities and typical products of each locality with high economic value.
Mr. Vo Nam Thang, Head of the Ethnic Minorities Committee of Khanh Hoa province, said: The ethnic minority and mountainous areas of the province have always received leadership, direction and maximum mobilization of resources from Party committees and authorities at all levels over the past years, issued many support policies, and implemented many synchronous solutions for investment in socio-economic development.
Up to now, the rural appearance of ethnic minority and mountainous areas has improved a lot, the socio-economic infrastructure has been invested step by step to meet the needs of living, studying, working and production of the people. In the coming time, departments, branches and localities in the province will continue to focus on investing in building roads to serve production and people's lives, creating favorable conditions for people in ethnic minority and mountainous areas to develop the economy.
