As a locality with a developed livestock movement, in order to protect livestock and poultry, Tuyen Hoa district has simultaneously deployed the first vaccination plan to communes and towns. During this vaccination, the locality has promoted propaganda about the effectiveness of vaccines, carefully prepared human resources and materials, ensured the process of preserving and using vaccines and organized vaccinations according to regulations.

Nguyen Thanh Bay, Deputy Head of the Tuyen Hoa-Minh Hoa Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station, said: To proactively carry out disease prevention and control work on livestock and poultry, contributing to minimizing damage caused by diseases, the People's Committee of Tuyen Hoa district has issued a plan to vaccinate livestock and poultry in 2025. According to the plan, the district will organize mass vaccination in 2 phases in 2025, the first phase from March to April 2025, including vaccines for: Lumpy skin disease, foot and mouth disease, anthrax in cattle; classical swine fever in pigs; avian influenza. The second phase will be vaccinated from August to September 2025; rabies vaccine for dogs and cats will be vaccinated from February 2025.

Currently, the entire Tuyen Hoa district has injected 6,400/6,700 doses of rabies vaccine, reaching 95.52% of the plan, other vaccines are being deployed. In 2025, Tuyen Hoa district will continue to support 100% of the cost of rabies vaccination for dogs, 50% of lumpy skin disease and cattle septicemia vaccines.

As a mixed livestock farming household for many years, with the motto of prevention is better than cure, Mr. Ha Van Thu's family in Dong Hoa commune (Tuyen Hoa) always focuses on caring for and protecting livestock to minimize economic losses in the livestock sector. His family currently has 10 cows, 35 sows, 200 commercial pigs and 500 chickens.

Mr. Thu shared: In my opinion, one of the effective measures to develop stable livestock farming is to carry out regular vaccinations for livestock against dangerous infectious diseases. During mass vaccinations for cows and dogs, my family strictly complied. As for pigs and poultry, the family vaccinated themselves, limiting people from entering and leaving the farm and spreading diseases. Thanks to that, over the years, the family's livestock has always grown healthily, bringing high economic efficiency.

In Bo Trach district, vaccination work is also being implemented. According to the review, the total livestock and poultry herd of the district is 18,947 buffaloes and cows, 62,637 pigs, 625,893 poultry... In 2025, Bo Trach district will support 100% of the price of rabies vaccine for dogs raised in the district; support funding for foot-and-mouth disease vaccination for buffaloes and cows in Thuong Trach and Tan Trach communes; funding for local activities on information, propaganda, inspection, supervision and organization of conferences to deploy and summarize vaccination work...

Head of the Bo Trach Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station, Hoang Xuan Thanh, said: Vaccination is one of the effective measures to create active immunity to ensure the protection rate of livestock to prevent some dangerous infectious diseases in livestock and poultry; promptly prevent the outbreak and spread of diseases, contributing to protecting the health of livestock, bringing economic efficiency in livestock farming, ensuring food safety and protecting human health. Currently, the locality is implementing vaccination as well as strengthening the propaganda of vaccination regulations so that livestock farmers know and strictly comply. In addition, fully prepare means, tools, materials, arrange more human resources to serve vaccination work; organize mass vaccination in the whole district.

As of April 8, 2025, the whole province has injected 13,555 doses/plan of 96,300 doses of foot-and-mouth disease vaccine for cattle and buffalo, reaching 14.08%; 15,690 doses/plan of 96,300 doses of anthrax vaccine for cattle and buffalo, reaching 16.29% of the plan; 7,345 doses/plan of 96,300 doses of lumpy skin disease, reaching 7.63% of the plan; 18,110 doses/plan of 207,500 doses of foot-and-mouth disease for pigs, reaching 8.73% of the plan; 59,485 doses/plan of 207,500 doses of classical swine fever, reaching 28.67% of the plan, 22,666 doses/plan of 68,000 doses of rabies vaccine for dogs, reaching 33.33% of the plan;...

Since the beginning of the year, there have been no dangerous outbreaks in livestock and poultry in Quang Binh. However, in 2024, livestock epidemics have occurred, significantly affecting the people's economy. Specifically, lumpy skin disease in cattle occurred in 14 communes in 4 districts (Tuyen Hoa, Quang Trach, Bo Trach, Quang Ninh), causing 67 cows to become sick, of which 17 cows died (an increase of 6 outbreaks and a decrease of 5 sick cattle compared to the same period in 2023). African swine fever (ASF) occurred in 15 communes and wards in 5 districts, cities and towns (Dong Hoi, Tuyen Hoa, Quang Trach, Minh Hoa, Ba Don), causing 619 pigs to become sick and be destroyed (a decrease of 520 pigs to be destroyed but an increase of 1 outbreak, compared to the same period in 2023).

Deputy Head of the Provincial Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, Duong Viet Phuong Tuan, said: Currently, livestock and poultry diseases are complicated. Although the Department of Agriculture and localities have stepped up propaganda, due to the low awareness of disease prevention and control and vaccination of livestock and poultry among some livestock households, vaccination is only carried out when there is an epidemic or when there is a risk of disease spreading from other places into the area. In many mountainous and remote communes, people raise livestock on a small scale, so vaccination is not focused on; some households still raise livestock far from their homes, so veterinary staff are very passive. Therefore, the vaccination rate for livestock and poultry is still low. To ensure disease safety and develop sustainable livestock farming, livestock households need to proactively vaccinate against dangerous infectious diseases to prevent the outbreak and spread of diseases, contributing to promoting the sustainable development of livestock farming in the province.
