(To Quoc) - The traditional boat racing tournament of Hue city is a cultural and sporting activity that always receives the attention of a large number of people and tourists. On March 23, on the Huong River and Dong Ba River, Trinh Cong Son Park section, Hue City People's Committee organized the 3rd Hue City Traditional Boat Race in 2024. The boat race aims to meet the needs of the masses to enjoy traditional culture and sports; is an opportunity for athletes to exchange and learn experiences; strengthen solidarity between units in Hue City.
This is also an opportunity to promote traditional cultural and sports activities of the homeland, associated with stimulating tourism, creating an exciting atmosphere to promote socio-economic development..., while continuing to promote the Campaign "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho".
Leaders of Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee presented souvenir flags to the teams participating in the tournament.
This year's traditional boat race has more than 400 male and female athletes from 9 participating units including: Thuy Van, Gia Hoi, An Dong, Huong Phong, Huong Vinh, Hai Duong, Phu Hau, Kim Long of Hue city and 1 guest team from Phu An commune, Phu Vang district.
The teams compete in 9-person boats and participate in 9 races: Men's Cung and Men's Pha (swimming 3 laps of 6 turns); Men's and Women's Tien races (swimming 2 laps of 4 turns). Each race has a swimming distance of 700m - 800m/lap.
For the Offering and Breaking (3 laps, 6 turns): Starting at the mandarin's table in Trinh Cong Son Park - flipping the Ron round - returning to the Upper round on Dong Ba River - returning to the Lower round on Huong River (Con Hen side) - flipping the Ron round to reach the finish line; For the male and female Tien rounds and mixed male and female rounds (2 laps, 4 turns): Starting at the mandarin's table in Trinh Cong Son Park - flipping the Ron round - returning to the Lower round on Huong River (Con Hen side) - returning to the Upper round on Dong Ba River - flipping the Ron round to reach the finish line.
With the spirit of "Solidarity - Honesty - Nobility - Progress", the athletes tried their best to compete, bringing the audience attractive and dramatic races.
The dramatic acceleration of the boat racing teams brought unforgettable emotions to the audience. The boats tried their best to follow each other and overtake other boats on each section of the river.
On the shore, the audience enthusiastically cheered and encouraged the racing teams.
Large LED screens have been arranged by the Organizing Committee so that the audience can follow every development of the tournament.
In racing, "flipping" is an exciting part of the competition that shows the skills and tactics of each team. The team that performs well in this part will have a huge advantage in the final result.
The finish line is determined by a 12m long bamboo pole, 0.5m above the ground, in front of the viewing table area is the landmark that determines the end of the race. The boat is considered to have completed the race when the boat driver has completed the correct oar placement movement at the finish line.
The prizes for the racing teams with high achievements are animals such as pigs and cows from the Organizing Committee and sponsors.
