The Vietnam Creativity & Design Festival 2023 will take place in Ho Chi Minh City from November 13-19 and in Hanoi from December 1-7 with the theme "Intelligence & Technology".

The Vietnam Festival of Creativity & Design (VFCD) was initiated by RMIT University Vietnam to create an open and highly interactive platform for individuals and organizations to keep up with the latest trends in the creative field.

The programme will include an in-depth series of events, including workshops, exhibitions, talks, dialogues and demonstrations to explore the creative potential of technology and related tools, and examine the challenges and opportunities that technology brings to the creative industries.

Professor Julia Gaimster, Head of the School of Communication and Design at RMIT Vietnam and Head of the festival organising committee, said: “This year’s festival highlights Vietnam’s creative power and recognises the positive impact of human intelligence in the new technological era.

In this year's program, we will explore the theme of 'Intelligence & Technology', how they interact and impact each other in the creative industries, as well as the potential that comes from the combination of human thinking, artificial intelligence and other technological achievements".

“Technology has always been a driver of innovation and transformation, but also a source of challenges and dilemmas,” she said. “As we enter a new era of digitalization and automation, we need to ask ourselves: How can we harness the potential of technology and the tools it offers to enhance human creativity and productivity?

How do we deal with the risks and uncertainties that technology and related tools can bring to our society and culture?

How can we balance humans and machines, mind and matter, art and science?

These are some of the questions we will be discussing during the festival. We will be showcasing the best examples of technology applications in creative fields.

We will also invite experts and practitioners from various fields and backgrounds to share their knowledge, insights and experiences on how to use technology and related tools effectively and ethically.”

Mr. Michael Croft, Acting Chief Representative of UNESCO Office in Hanoi, affirmed: “Vietnam is fortunate to have an abundant source of young talent with more than 22 million people aged 16 to 30, who are educated and technically proficient.

They offer the country huge potential for the cultural and creative industries, as young people are the backbone of the creative sector with a natural inclination towards both innovation and creativity, taking calculated risks and especially expressing these through entrepreneurship”.

“We must continue to ensure that we provide time and space for young people to take a leading role in maximising the impact of the creative economy on economic and social growth. This has been a key objective of the VFCD since its inception,” said Michael Croft.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Phuong, Director of the Vietnam National Institute of Culture and Arts Studies, also said: “I fully believe in and appreciate the importance of VFCD as a pioneering creative platform for all individuals, organizations and communities working in the fields of culture, arts and creativity in Vietnam, to promote the development of cultural industries.”

Initiated in 2019, VFCD has contributed to promoting partnerships and projects between organizations and individuals in the cultural and creative sector in Vietnam.

VFCD 2023 is co-organized by RMIT University Vietnam, UNESCO, VICAS and partners in the creative sector, with media sponsorship and organizational advice from Hanoi Grapevine.
