Opening of the Traditional Festival of Female General Le Chan in 2025

On the evening of March 7, Le Chan District, Hai Phong City held a ceremony to receive the National Treasure "Nghe Temple's Gold Items" and opened the 2025 Le Chan Female General Traditional Festival.

Promoting the value of national intangible cultural heritage

Speaking at the program, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Linh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Le Chan District, Hai Phong City - said: The Le Chan Female General Traditional Festival is an event organized by Le Chan District to promote the beauty of culture, traditional rituals about the life, career, and great contributions of Female General Le Chan. Thereby, arousing pride in propagating and educating the history, culture, and tradition of "Drinking water, remembering its source" of the nation, while preserving and promoting the value of national intangible cultural heritage.

Along with the development of the city, in recent years, the Party Committee, government and people of Le Chan district have united, created, innovated, and strived to complete and exceed the economic and social targets assigned by the city. The district's economic scale has increased rapidly and expanded, always maintaining a growth rate; the district's budget revenue in 2024 is the leading in the city. The district has been and is the destination of many large domestic and foreign investors, and is the medical, educational and commercial center of the city.

Female General Le Chan - a talented female general who achieved many feats in the Hai Ba Trung uprising, was appointed by Trung Vuong as Princess Thanh Chan to hold the position of Commander of the military power. She was the one who reclaimed land, established villages and built Trang An Bien in the past, Hai Phong City today. To commemorate the great merit of Female General Le Chan, the people honored her as the Holy Mother and built many temples and communal houses to worship her.

Since 2016, the Traditional Festival of General Le Chan has been recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. This year's festival takes place over 3 days, from March 6 to 8 (ie February 7 to 9 of the lunar calendar). The festival is held at 3 main locations: the statue of General Le Chan, Nghe Temple and An Bien Communal House with many rich and unique activities. Notably, on the opening night of this year's festival, the National Treasure "Nghe Temple Gold Products" is received.

Previously, on December 31, 2024, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long signed Decision No. 1712/QD-TTg on the recognition of national treasures (13th batch) with 33 treasures recognized as national treasures, including the "Nghe Temple's set of gold artifacts".

Many rich and unique activities

Also at the opening ceremony, a large number of people and tourists inside and outside Hai Phong City enjoyed the art program "Female General Le Chan - Thanh Hoang of the Port City" directed and performed by the People's Committee of Le Chan District. The program had the participation of artists and actors: singer Dang Duong, singer Gemma Nguyen, singer Phuc Tien, singer Dieu Thuy... In addition, the program also had the participation of the Sol dance group and students from Ngo Quyen High School, Tran Nguyen Han High School and Le Chan High School.

In the series of festival activities, Le Chan district, Hai Phong city organized the following programs: Ca Tru art with the theme "Le Chan martyrs", performed by artists and actors from the Le Chan District Cultural, Information and Sports Center, Nguyen Van To Primary School, Xu Dong Ca Tru Club, An Bien Ca Tru Club and Lo Khe Ca Tru Club (Hanoi).

The 2025 Narcissus Competition was held at the festival.

Previously, at the National Historical and Cultural Relic of Nghe Temple, Hai Phong Museum coordinated with Hai Phong Narcissus Club to organize the 2025 Narcissus Competition. The activity attracted a large number of artisans and people from inside and outside the city to participate.

"The Nghe Temple's metal artifacts set" includes 16 groups of artifacts, demonstrating the level of crafting techniques, aesthetic thinking, decorative art and profound religious and spiritual meanings. The artifacts set includes: 1 betel leaf, 1 bunch of areca nuts, 4 cards, 1 gold leaf, 1 fan, 3 pairs of earrings, 2 lip balm boxes, 1 pair of bracelets, 1 set of buttons, 11 strings of beads. "The Nghe Temple's metal artifacts set" was offered by the people to the Holy Mother Le Chan. Based on archival documents, research on the history of the formation and existence of the Nghe Temple and the characteristics of the artistic style and decorative arts on the artifacts, Hai Phong Museum determined that the "Nghe Temple's metal artifacts set" was crafted during the Nguyen Dynasty, early 20th century.
