Ceremony to present a memorial service to pay tribute to Lady Trieu. |
Trieu Thi Trinh, also known as Trieu Trinh Nuong, was born in 226, in Quan Yen land, now Yen Dinh district, Thanh Hoa province.
Growing up and seeing the people living in misery under the yoke of exploitation and brutal oppression by the Eastern Wu invaders, Trieu Thi Trinh boldly said: "I only want to ride the strong wind, step on the fierce waves, kill the whales in the East Sea, regain the country, establish independence, and free myself from slavery. I will never bow down to be someone's concubine."
Lady Trieu and her brother Trieu Quoc Dat secretly prepared logistics, weapons, gathered heroes, and trained soldiers to fight against the feudal domination of the north.

A scene recreating the spirit of Ba Trieu and her army. |
The protectorate government discovered it, Trieu Thi Trinh and her soldiers retreated to Ngan Nua to build, fight, and firmly defend the base. Lady Trieu and her army captured Thanh Tu Pho, destroyed the protectorate government of the Ngo dynasty in Cuu Chan district, and advanced north to join forces with three generals of the Ly family to build and consolidate the Bo Dien base (in Trieu Loc commune, Hau Loc district today).
The uprising "shocked the entire Giao Chau region", the Ngo Dynasty sent Luc Dan to command 8,000 skilled soldiers to attack Cuu Chan. Along the northern defense line of the Len River to the Than Phu estuary, about 30 battles took place without a clear winner.
The enemy changed direction to besiege Bo Dien, using the despicable tactic of “facing the difficult Queen Ba”. In the decisive battle at Bo Dien base, Ba Trieu heroically sacrificed herself at Tung mountain on February 22, 248 (the year of Mau Thin). The three generals of the Ly family fought bravely, sacrificing until the last man.
