Kimazae (Korean, living in Thailand for 20 years) moved to work long-term in Da Nang from Lunar New Year 2024. During his time living here, he also took the opportunity to experience local cuisine and culture.

Kimazae commented that Da Nang is a livable place because of its affordable cost of living and delicious food. Among them, pho is one of his favorite dishes, even eating only pho for 2 days in a row, trying 4 different versions.

“For 2 days, I only ate pho. There are many types of pho, but I prefer to choose famous local restaurants,” said the Korean guest.

Kimazae ate pho continuously for 2 days in Da Nang

On the first day, Kimazae tried two types of pho from the same famous brand but at two different locations in Da Nang. For his first meal, he visited the location on Ho Nghi Street (Son Tra District) and ordered Korean beef noodle soup.

According to the description on the restaurant's menu, this pho dish "brings diners a new culinary experience, a crystallization of two long-standing culinary cultures, Korea and Vietnam."

The male tourist commented that the pho broth was thick and spicy, and the offal was carefully prepared so it had no fishy smell. “It was spicy even without any seasoning. The pho noodles were soft, plump but a bit fatty.”

According to Kimazae, the pho here is more expensive than other regular restaurants. The price of beef noodle soup ranges from 80,000 - 120,000 VND/serving (depending on the portion).

“But it's worth it, as the quality is good and they serve a lot of beef,” Kimazae said.

The next meal of the day, the customer went to the second location on Pasteur Street (Hai Chau District). Here, he ordered the special spicy rib pho because this is a favorite dish of Koreans, priced at 149,000 VND.

The beef rib noodle soup that Kimazae commented was "the most expensive I've ever eaten", costing about 7,500 Won (nearly 150,000 VND).

After finishing the bowl of pho, Kimazae admitted that he was “full” because of the large ribs and the generous portion of pho noodles. In his opinion, the broth here is also thick and has a flavor quite similar to beef offal pho.

On the second day, Kimazae had lunch at a famous pho restaurant on Ly Tu Trong Street (Hai Chau District) and ordered a rare pho dish for 55,000 VND, plus a shrimp and pork spring roll for 230,000 VND.

He was very impressed with the restaurant's quick and attentive service. The food was prepared quickly. Diners could also have jasmine tea or kimchi depending on their preference.

“The broth here is clear and delicious, and looks very clean. However, according to my personal taste, I find it a bit bland, so I added a little more seasoning to make it more flavorful. But this is still the type of pho I recommend you eat when you come to Da Nang,” Kimazae shared her feelings.

He also appreciated the taste of the shrimp and pork spring rolls with crispy crust, full and tasty filling, and delicious dipping sauce.

The Korean customer also admitted that he tried to eat a lot but could not finish the portion he ordered. “The bowl of pho was quite full so I was very full. Even though both dishes were delicious, I ate as much as I could but could not eat any more,” he said.

For dinner, Kimazae continued to look for a pho restaurant on Ngo Quyen Street (Son Tra District). The restaurant is located right on the main road. He ordered a bowl of rare pho, priced at 45,000 VND, served with some vegetables such as bean sprouts, coriander, and dog mint.

Because he had enjoyed Vietnamese pho many times and learned how to eat it from the locals, this guest also added vegetables and some spices such as garlic vinegar, chili sauce, etc. to make the dish more appealing.

“The broth tastes quite similar to the pho I had at lunch. However, the pho here usually has coriander leaves added,” Kimazae commented.

Kimazae said that in 2 days, he tried 4 different types of beef pho.

He commented that all four types are delicious, but each version has its own unique flavor, not mixed together. Each type is even sold at a different price, from affordable to expensive.

“If I had to eat one of those pho dishes again now, I could still eat it,” the customer humorously expressed.
