On April 28, on the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway (the section adjacent to the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway, through Song Nhan commune, Cam My district, Dong Nai) from Dong Nai to Binh Thuan, there was a serious traffic jam.

The traffic was so heavy that drivers only moved little by little, causing the line of cars to stretch for about ten kilometers from the intersection of the two highways to the toll station on the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay highway.

According to records, vehicles such as cars, buses, trucks... lined up "stuck" on the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay highway. Sometimes the vehicles moved a little and then "froze".

Many impatient drivers tried to drive into the emergency lane to go faster but were also stuck. Traffic police quickly arrived to divert vehicles to Highway 1 to go to Ho Chi Minh City, helping to ease the traffic jam and congestion on this highway.

A representative of Vietnam Expressway Engineering Services Joint Stock Company (VECE - the route management unit) said that since the morning of April 28, the traffic volume on Long Thanh Expressway from Ho Chi Minh City to Dong Nai and Binh Thuan has increased, causing congestion.

“The number of people on holiday traveling in some central provinces has led to a sudden increase in traffic, causing overload. This situation happens every year, but people still flock to the highway instead of choosing other routes,” said a VECE representative.

In addition, the cause was also determined to be due to some vehicles having insufficient account balance, faulty cards or not having their cards affixed, which also led to traffic being affected and congested at the toll station.

At the same time, according to observation, traffic in the opposite direction is clear.

Mr. Le Tan Vu (living in District 12, Ho Chi Minh City) said that because he was worried about traffic jams, he left early in the morning but still could not escape the midday traffic jam on the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay highway.

Sharing the same concern about traffic jams, Ms. Pham Hong Anh (from Xuan Loc, Dong Nai) shared: “This year, the Cam Lam - Vinh Hao expressway was put into use, so my family chose to travel to Nha Trang, but we did not expect the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway to be stuck in traffic for such a long time. The heat makes the whole family tired.”

On the same day, April 28, in contrast to the Phan Thiet – Dau Giay Expressway, National Highway 1A from An Suong to the West was clear. Similarly, the roads in Ho Chi Minh City were also sparsely populated and had few vehicles on the second day of the April 30 – May 1 holiday.
