On March 25, Member of the National Assembly Standing Committee, Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for Science, Technology and Environment Le Quang Huy and a delegation from the Ministry of Science and Technology led by Deputy Minister Bui Hoang Phuong visited and worked with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria.
This is an activity within the framework of the Ministry of Science and Technology's working trip to Europe, taking place from March 24 to 28.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Bui Hoang Phuong sincerely thanked the IAEA for its practical support for Vietnam in recent times, especially in the fields of training, improving professional capacity, as well as connecting Vietnam with international initiatives on atomic energy.
Deputy Minister Bui Hoang Phuong also informed the IAEA about two key issues that Vietnam is implementing: the draft Law on Atomic Energy (amended) and the plan to restart the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Project.
In particular, regarding the restart of the Nuclear Power Project, Deputy Minister Bui Hoang Phuong asked the IAEA to share international experience in master planning, building an implementation roadmap, developing high-quality human resources and selecting strategic technology partners.

Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Science, Technology and Environment Le Quang Huy expressed his wish to continue receiving support and in-depth professional advice from the IAEA on a number of key issues such as: Establishing an independent and effective nuclear regulatory agency; Building a nuclear power plant licensing process in line with international standards; Strengthening nuclear security and safety; Establishing a regular monitoring and inspection mechanism; Issuing regulations related to liability for compensation for nuclear damage.
The IAEA representative highly appreciated Vietnam’s goodwill and determination in restoring nuclear programs for peaceful purposes, and pledged to continue to accompany and support Vietnam in both professional and technical terms. The IAEA will allocate resources to promptly provide comments on the Draft Law on Atomic Energy (amended) and closely coordinate with the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology to prepare detailed content for the official working sessions scheduled to take place next April.
In the field of training, IAEA introduces the Nuclear Security Training Center and current training models, is ready to send experts to support Vietnam as well as receive Vietnamese officials to study and research at IAEA.
The working session is an important milestone, continuing to strengthen the effective cooperation relationship between Vietnam and the IAEA, opening up new prospects in the application of atomic energy to serve socio-economic development, ensuring national energy security in the direction of safety, modernity and sustainability.
