(HNMO) - On the afternoon of May 10, athlete Huynh Thi My Tien excellently finished first and won the gold medal of the 32nd SEA Games in the women's 100m hurdles event for Vietnamese athletics.
In the exciting final of the women's 100m hurdles in athletics, the change of throne took place between two bright faces of Vietnamese athletics, Huynh Thi My Tien and Bui Thi Nguyen. These are two athletes who always compete for first and second place in tournaments. At the 9th National Sports Festival - 2022, Bui Thi Nguyen also won a gold medal in this event.
Before competing at the 31st SEA Games, held in Vietnam last year, Huynh Thi My Tien contracted Covid-19, which severely affected her physical condition and she finished almost last in this event. At that time, Bui Thi Nguyen had raced to the finish line with a time of 13 seconds 51. However, 1 year later, Huynh Thi My Tien had a chance to "take revenge" when she took first place with a time of 13 seconds 50 while Bui Thi Nguyen finished with a time of 13 seconds 52, winning the Silver Medal.
Sharing her feelings after winning the Gold Medal, Huynh Thi My Tien said that before this year's SEA Games, she also tested positive for Covid-19. However, this was the second time she contracted the virus, so her physical condition was not as affected as before.
“When I knew I finished first, all my emotions exploded. I suffered from constant injuries and Covid-19, so I always had to try to overcome myself. This is my third SEA Games and the first one I have won a medal. I want to dedicate this medal to my teacher - the person who has always worried about me, taken care of me and helped me throughout my training.”
* Also this afternoon, athlete Nguyen Trung Cuong excellently won the Gold Medal in the men's 3,000m steeplechase event at the 32nd SEA Games with a time of 8 minutes 51 seconds 99; while teammate Le Tien Long won the Silver Medal with a time of 8 minutes 53 seconds 62.
