On the afternoon of May 1, the Vietnamese women's football team had their first training session at NIPES Stadium (Phnompenh, Cambodia) to begin their campaign to defend their gold medal at the 32nd SEA Games.
Notably, Huynh Nhu, a player currently playing for Lank FC (Portugal), returned to Vietnam on April 24 and has been training separately in Ho Chi Minh City to wait to join the team. Coach Mai Duc Chung also arranged for a separate assistant to stay in Vietnam to support this player.
On April 30, Huynh Nhu joined the Vietnamese women's team after the whole team returned from Japan.
This is the first training session of coach Mai Duc Chung and his team in Cambodia to prepare for the women's football matches at the 32nd SEA Games.
Coach Mai Duc Chung arrived quite early, personally preparing training equipment for his students.
The players warm up before practicing tactics.
Huynh Nhu is still the center of attention on the training ground and attracts all the media's lenses. In an interview before the training session, the striker from Tra Vinh said: "I still practice and compete every week before joining the team, so I still ensure my physical strength.
However, the weather in Cambodia is quite hot, very different from Portugal and Japan. The whole team has had a day to adapt and today will start training to get used to the weather here."
"Being trusted and loved by everyone, Nhu personally feels very happy. There is pressure but I use it as motivation to try my best to help the team successfully defend the championship. Personally, in every tournament, I always aim to become the player who scores the most goals in the tournament," Huynh Nhu said.
The weather outside in Phnom Penh reached nearly 40 degrees Celsius, making it difficult for the female players to adapt. Some players had to wear towels on their heads to avoid the sun during breaks in practice.
The players practiced quite actively to get used to the weather in the capital Phnom Penh.
During the 2-week training in Osaka, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team had 3 friendly matches. The Vietnamese women's team won 4-0 against Biwaco Seikei Sports University, lost 0-2 to Cerezo Osaka Club and drew 0-0 with Osaka Sports University.
According to the organizers' schedule, the Vietnamese women's team will open the 32nd SEA Games with a match against the Malaysian women's team at 4:00 p.m. on May 3. After that, the team will face Myanmar and the Philippines on May 6 and May 9, respectively.
