Huawei said it will release its high-end Mate 70 smartphone line this month, increasing pressure on Apple and other domestic brands.

Richard Yu Chengdong, President of Huawei's Consumer Business Group, called it "the most powerful Mate model in history" in a Weibo post on November 4.

The media said that the Mate 70 will be closely watched by the mobile industry. The Mate 60 announced in August 2023 was a big surprise because it used advanced chips “made in China”.

With a 7nm chip manufactured by SMIC foundry, the Mate 60 has sparked a wave of patriotic consumption at home, helping to revive Huawei's smartphone business despite a "no fanfare" launch.

Mate 70 is expected to be equipped with the "homegrown" HarmonyOS 5.0 operating system, which no longer supports Android applications.

In addition, there are 4 versions – Mate 70, Mate 70 Pro, Mate 70 Pro+ and Mate 70 Ultimate Design – different in design and camera features. It is likely that the device will use Kirin chip manufactured on 5nm process.

Previously, SCMP quoted a supply chain source as saying that Huawei ordered Mate 70 components up to 50% higher than Mate 60.

The Chinese company has readied more than 1 million units for the upcoming sale.

According to Huawei Central , Mate 70 is expected to hit shelves in mid-November, after the super sale on November 11.

The Mate 70 will continue to support Huawei – once the world's largest smartphone manufacturer before being banned by the US – in regaining its lost glory in the high-end segment, where competition has become extremely fierce in the world's largest market.
