On September 2, Huawei said it will hold a product launch event at 2:30 p.m. on September 10 (local time), just hours after Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone 16 along with new Apple Watch and AirPods models.

It’s unclear what Huawei will bring to its event. Richard Yu, head of the company’s automotive and consumer technology division, hinted at “leading, innovative and disruptive” products.
“This is an epoch-making product that others have thought of but failed to create,” Mr. Yu wrote on Weibo, adding that after five years of investment, Huawei had “turned science fiction into reality.”
According to Bloomberg , Yu was spotted holding a new device, which appears to be a tri-fold smartphone. Its main advantage is that when opened, it is the size of a tablet, but thanks to the tri-fold, it is compact and easy to carry.
Huawei and fellow Chinese companies Honor and Xiaomi are making some of the thinnest foldable phones around and are working to develop new form factors.
Huawei was once the world's largest smartphone maker before its handset business was devastated by a US embargo that cut off its access to the latest semiconductors.
In 2023, the Chinese company shocked lawmakers in Washington and around the world by announcing a new phone with a relatively advanced chip. This year, it is following up with another model.
Huawei’s rise poses a challenge to Apple in Asia’s largest economy. The iPhone maker lost its spot in the mainland’s top five best-selling smartphone brands in the second quarter, according to research firm Canalys.
Meanwhile, Huawei recorded a 41% increase in domestic sales compared to a year earlier, the fastest among the top five.
