In an interview with Sky News Arabia , Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov affirmed that Russia and China do not need to establish a military alliance when the two countries' militaries have successfully cooperated without building any alliance.
“We are often asked when we will form a military alliance. We do not need to do that. We hold military exercises regularly,” Foreign Minister Lavrov said.
The head of Russian diplomacy affirmed that the Russian and Chinese armies "cooperate, connect with each other, develop their capabilities to act together, conduct joint exercises, without needing any military alliance such as the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)".
Mr Lavrov added that the current relationship is the best in the history of Russia-China relations and is “strategic”.
Last May, Russian President Vladimir Putin paid a state visit to China. His visit, coming shortly after his re-election and on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Russia-China diplomatic relations, demonstrated the priorities and depth of the relationship between the two powers.
