The incident occurred on the night of March 31. In a statement on April 1, Jetstar said the plane had to return to Bali after a passenger became disruptive, tried to open the plane door and verbally abused the crew. Upon landing at Denpasar airport, the man was escorted off the plane by local authorities.
A video circulating on social media shows a woman sitting in the back of the plane trying to lift the door handle. The crew quickly detected the incident thanks to a warning signal, forcing the captain to make an announcement to passengers.
According to data from Flightradar24, the plane turned back after about an hour of flying over the Indian Ocean.

Jetstar did not disclose the exact number of passengers and crew on board the flight. The airline confirmed that the safety of passengers and crew is always its top priority, and thanked the crew and passengers for remaining calm in a tense situation.
"Unacceptable behaviour like this will never be tolerated on our flights," Jetstar said in a statement.
The incident is just one of many recent incidents of passengers causing chaos on planes. There have been cases of passengers opening emergency exits, attacking flight attendants, or forcing planes to make emergency diversions.
Last year, a passenger on an American Airlines flight broke into a plane door and injured a flight attendant, forcing other passengers to restrain him with duct tape.
In 2023, a man on an Asiana Airlines flight opened the emergency exit door just before landing because he felt claustrophobic. Following the incident, the airline decided to stop selling emergency exit seats on its Airbus A321s.
