The General Department of Customs has just updated that in the first 4 months of the year, Vietnam imported 54,344 complete cars, up 47.2% over the same period last year. Of which, 43,856 cars with 9 seats or less were imported, up 45.6% and 7,773 trucks, up 109%.
However, the number of imported cars in April decreased sharply by 2,905 units, equivalent to a decrease of 19.1% compared to the previous month. Specifically, in April, the country imported 12,323 cars of all kinds, worth 288 million USD, before that, imported cars in March were 15,228 units, worth 355 million USD.
In April, imported complete cars decreased by more than 2,900 units.
The three main markets exporting cars to Vietnam so far are still Thailand, Indonesia and China, with 6,098, 3,924 and 1,206 cars respectively in April. The General Department of Customs said that the total number of cars imported from the three markets above accounted for 91% of the total number of cars imported into Vietnam, equivalent to 11,228 cars.
Notably, the number of cars with less than 9 seats imported to Vietnam in April was 8,997 units, worth 198.6 million USD, down 25.4% (equivalent to an increase of 3,063 units) compared to the previous month. Of which, cars originating from Thailand were 4,855 units, down 33.3% and from the Indonesian market were 2,996 units, down 16.2%. In total, the number of completely built-up cars with 9 seats or less imported from the two markets of Thailand and Indonesia reached 7,851 units, accounting for 87% of the total number of this type of car imported into Vietnam.
Similarly, imported trucks from the two markets also increased sharply in April. 1,240 units were imported from Thailand, up 23.8%; 898 units were imported from Indonesia, up 57.3%. However, only 306 trucks from China were imported in April, down 26.8%... compared to the previous month.
Customs data shows that the number of imported cars to the two main ports of Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Phong has decreased sharply, by more than 20% of all types.
In addition, according to preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs, in April, 327 million USD worth of auto parts and components of all kinds were imported into our country by businesses, down nearly 11% compared to April. Leading the market was China with 85 million USD, from Korea 77.7 million USD, from Japan 57 million USD, from Thailand 39.7 million USD and from India 24.4 million USD. In total, imported auto parts and components originating from these 5 countries reached 284 million USD. Accumulated in the first 4 months of the year, the import value of auto parts and components reached 1.32 billion USD, down more than 25% compared to the same period last year.
