Announcing a series of special programs celebrating the 50th anniversary of national reunification on VTV

Along with the live broadcast of the National Celebration, Parade, and March on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), Vietnam Television (VTV) has many special programs and documentaries broadcast on channels and digital platforms in the historic month of April.

At a press conference on April 18 in Hanoi, announcing a series of key programs to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Television Do Thanh Hai said that the series of programs is a comprehensive communication effort, contributing to inspiring from the past to the present, like a symphony of peace, unity and aspirations for the country's development.

The special event that people across the country and international friends are looking forward to is the National Celebration, Parade, and March on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day. The program will be broadcast live on VTV1 from 7am on April 30 (from 6:30am on VTVgo), conveying the heroic atmosphere from Le Duan Street, Bach Dang Riverside Park, Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street, and Le Loi Street (Ho Chi Minh City).

The highlight of the program series is VTV Special and documentary, reflecting the depth of history, human values ​​and the spirit of reconciliation. In particular, VTV Special “The Duel of Wills” is a true story from the perspective of Mr. Craig McNamara - son of former US Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara. To have a unique, humane and profound perspective on the Vietnam War through the American perspective, the crew searched for, approached and filmed more than 50 historical witnesses at home and abroad, present in 6 provinces and cities in Vietnam and 7 cities in the US...

The VTV Special Program “Historical Broadcast” is not only a reminiscence about the “policy of taking over Saigon television” but also a story about national reconciliation through the combination of officers and employees of Saigon Television to have a historical broadcast on the evening of May 1, 1975 using the old regime’s television system, deeply depicting the first days of revolutionary television in the South.

The VTV Special “Healing” tells the story of two American filmmakers: Bob Judson, a veteran who fought in the Vietnam War in 1968, and Dan Aguar, who grew up after the war. They embark on a journey of “awakening” when they witness the vitality, tolerance, and spirit of the Vietnamese people.

The VTV Special Program “Journey to Reunification” not only mentions the pain that is gradually being healed, but also depicts the journey to find reconciliation, sending a strong message rich in human values.

In addition, a series of documentaries with profound content were also introduced to the audience. The film “Voice of Conscience” depicts the life of anti-war prisoner Eugene Wilber - a pilot and commanding officer of a plane that was shot down in Vietnam in 1969. The film “The Call” takes a new approach when telling the story of peace lovers around the world who joined in protesting the Vietnam War through music.

The documentary series “I was born in 1975”, “Saigon – The Day of Victory”, “Half a Century – A Dream”, “Secret Mission”, “Before the Total Victory”… bring to the audience a multi-dimensional, humane view of a historical period that changed the fate of the nation.

On this occasion, VTV introduced 5 episodes of the documentary “Aspiration for Peace” produced by the Central Documentary and Scientific Film Studio, vividly recreating the heroic history of the resilient Southern land throughout the struggle against foreign invaders and to protect the Fatherland…

Regarding the political and artistic exchange program, the highlight is the television bridge "Vang mai khuc khai hoan" (live broadcast at 8:10 p.m. on April 27 on VTV1). The program is an artistic epic performed at the following locations: Thong Nhat Park (Hanoi), Hien Luong Flag Tower, Hien Luong-Ben Hai National Special Relic Site (Quang Tri) and Saigon River Park, Thu Duc City (Ho Chi Minh City).

In addition, the art program “The Country is Full of Joy” (broadcast live at 8:10 p.m. on April 20 on VTV1) brings together more than 1,000 artists and soldiers, honoring the achievements of our ancestors, arousing national pride and the desire for peace. The program “Joining Hands” (broadcast live at 8:00 p.m. on April 26 on VTV Can Tho) highlights the great victory of the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, opening a period of independence, unification and development of the country.

Along with that, the audience also has many meaningful and humanistic art exchange programs such as “Song of Unification” (broadcast on April 26 on VTV1), “Time, Tell a Story” (broadcast on April 27 on VTV3), “Spring of Unification” (live broadcast at 8:10 p.m. on April 29 on VTV1)…
