According to statistics from the Vietnam Seaports Association (VPA), the volume of import and export containers through Vietnam's seaports in January 2024 reached over 1.8 million TEUs, an increase of 147% over the same period in 2023. In particular, there are 2 deep-water ports in the Cai Mep - Ba Ria Vung Tau cluster with an increase of more than 2 times.
Notably, the import and export container throughput through seaports in January 2024 increased in all port groups. In the Northern region, the increase was 152% compared to the same period in 2023 with 450,800 TEUs. Nam Dinh Vu is the container port with the highest increase (388%) in this region. HITC deep-water port in Lach Huyen - Hai Phong with connecting routes to the United States, India and a number of other key markets also increased by up to 173%.
Ports in the Central region also saw a 156% increase in container throughput, while Ho Chi Minh City saw a 138% increase. The Cai Mep – Ba Ria Vung Tau deep-water port, which receives about 30 mother ships each week connecting to the US, Europe and India markets, also saw a high increase of 157%, with Gemalink and TCTT seeing an increase of more than 2 times.
The high growth rate of container throughput through the port in January 2024 compared to the same period in 2023 is a positive sign, and shows that Vietnam's economic picture in the coming time will have many bright and positive colors.
