Attending the closing session, on the Vietnamese side, there were Politburo members: Vuong Dinh Hue, Chairman of the National Assembly; Tran Thanh Man, Permanent Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, Head of the Conference Organizing Committee; Do Van Chien, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Party Central Committee members: Le Hoai Trung, Head of the Central External Relations Commission; Nguyen Duc Hai, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly; Tran Quang Phuong, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly; Nguyen Anh Tuan, Secretary of the Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Group of Young National Assembly Deputies of Vietnam, Deputy Head of the Conference Organizing Committee.
On the international side, there were President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Duarte Pacheco, Secretary General of the IPU Martin Chungong, President of the IPU Young Parliamentarians Forum Dan Carden and President of the IPU Women Parliamentarians Forum Cynthia Lopez Castro.
Chaired by Ms. Dyah Roro Esti, Indonesian MP and member of the IPU Young Parliamentarians' Forum Executive Board, delegates observed a minute of silence to commemorate the victims of the recent earthquakes, floods and fires in Morocco, Libya and Vietnam.
At the closing session, delegates listened to a report summarizing the results of 1 panel discussion and 3 discussion sessions within the framework of the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians.
The conference adopted the Declaration on “The role of youth in promoting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals through digital transformation and innovation”. This is the first declaration of the Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians after 9 sessions.
At the closing session, IPU President Duarte Pacheco expressed his gratitude to the Vietnamese National Assembly for the thoughtful, active and respectful reception given to the delegations, making this conference a great success.
The IPU President said that the world is facing many challenges in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Therefore, he called on the world to be determined to implement the commitments, and urged the young generation to create change, promote science and innovation.
In his closing speech at the Conference, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue stated that the adoption of the Declaration demonstrates the determination, high consensus and strong commitment of young IPU parliamentarians in promoting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals on a global scale.
National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh said that the Conference also proposed promoting a global network of young parliamentarians on digital transformation and innovation, within the framework of the Young Parliamentarians Forum, closely coordinating with the IPU's Center for Parliamentary Innovation, to discuss content on innovation and new technology trends and support each other and share experiences on innovation and creativity; integrating innovation and digital transformation into the agenda or discussions of the IPU in the future.
On that basis, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue affirmed that the success of the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians shows that the IPU Young Parliamentarians Forum is a very necessary and useful forum for young parliamentarians and continues to affirm the importance of young parliamentarians in particular and young people in general as future owners of each country, nation and the whole world in participating in implementing the goals and tasks of the IPU and the United Nations.
Declaring the closing of the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue thanked all delegates for their cooperation and support to help the Vietnamese National Assembly fulfill its responsibilities as the host country of the Conference.
On behalf of the National Assembly and the Vietnamese people, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue also thanked the parliaments, parliamentarians of other countries, and delegates for their friendship towards the country and people of Vietnam, with increasingly effective cooperation and good feelings.
The 9th Global Meeting of Young Parliamentarians is the largest multilateral diplomatic event in 2023 hosted by Vietnam. This is also the first time the Vietnamese National Assembly has hosted the Global Meeting of Young Parliamentarians.
The conference was attended by more than 300 young parliamentarians and delegates from more than 70 IPU member parliaments and representatives of international organizations; ambassadors, representatives of foreign diplomatic missions and international organizations in Vietnam; 124 members of the Vietnam Young National Assembly Delegation; 20 outstanding young people of Vietnam; 20 young delegates of the provincial People's Councils of Vietnam...
