Student Trinh Gia Huy (class 12A1, Dam Doi High School) said he was very happy to win 3rd prize in literature in the national excellent student exam for the 2024-2025 school year.
I am always aware that I and my students are in remote areas, where travel conditions are difficult, so access to books and knowledge is limited. I myself always learn from large schools to access new things for myself and update that knowledge for my students so that they do not become outdated or fall behind.

Rent a room near school
Gia Huy's house is in Tan Long A hamlet, Tan Tien commune, Dam Doi district. Since childhood, Huy's parents took him to school by water transport, which was very difficult. When he grew up, Huy asked his parents to rent a room in Dam Doi district to go to school (Huy's house was about 30km from the school, and travel was difficult).
“Overcoming all the homesickness, I tried my best to study. The good things I have achieved today are thanks to the companionship and guidance of my teachers and the encouragement and support from my family and friends,” Huy said.
Similarly, Nguyen Nhat Duy (class 12A1, Dam Doi High School) was also moved and happy to receive the encouragement prize for national excellent student in biology. This is a source of pride and motivation for him to try harder on the learning path ahead.
Duy said that his family has two sisters. Duy's older sister is disabled, so Duy tries hard to study to support the family in the future. Duy's parents own a pharmacy, so they want him to study medicine. But the student plans to study pedagogy to help his parents.
“I have achieved the results I have today thanks to following the example of the school’s previous national excellent students and the dedicated teaching and support of my teachers. Thanks to that, I have the knowledge to participate in major competitions” – Nhat Duy expressed.
Pass on the "fire" to the game
Mr. Ho Minh Tinh - biology teacher at Dam Doi High School - said that Nhat Duy is not only good at biology but also good at foreign languages, good at all subjects, studies hard and is diligent.
“We live in a remote area, so we have to teach students both in depth and with direction. Then their self-study awareness will be effective. Teachers receive the “fire” from the school and then pass it on to the students. Whether or not they can “light the fire” depends largely on the students.
However, how can I help them see the stories of role models from previous courses so that they have the will to strive to improve like their seniors?" - Mr. Tinh shared.
Ms. Trinh Hai Minh – Gia Huy’s literature teacher – said that she has taught him since grade 10 in a specialized natural science class. Ms. Hai Minh realized that Gia Huy had a talent for literature, a good memory, the ability to self-study and was an excellent student in grades 10 and 11. Huy was very polite to teachers and lived in harmony with his friends. Huy had a very high spirit of self-study, research and learning.

I myself am always conscious of learning from big schools to approach new things for myself and update that knowledge for my students so that teachers and students do not become outdated or fall behind. When there are new concepts and new works, I update and share them with my students.
During my teaching sessions, I will assign topics to my group members to find documents, share, explain, and then speak up and grade each other's papers to recognize any mistakes or incomplete issues. I focus on developing critical thinking skills for students to overcome the shyness and timidity of students in the countryside" - Ms. Minh shared.
Many students from non-specialized schools won prizes.
Statistics from the results of the national excellent student exam for the 2024-2025 school year show that many students from non-specialized high schools won prizes. Among them are many district schools, even remote districts of the provinces.
Notable among these is Dong Du Secondary and High School (Dak Lak) with 9 students winning national excellent student awards. This school contributed 1 second prize, 1 third prize and 7 consolation prizes to the achievement of 72 national excellent student awards of Dak Lak students this year. Chi Lang High School (Gia Lai) also had high achievements when winning 5 national excellent student awards. Two 11th grade students of this school won a second prize and a third prize in physics. The remaining students won consolation prizes...
Similarly, the highest achievement of Tra Vinh province is three third prizes. One of these comes from Tra Cu District Boarding Secondary and High School for Ethnic Minorities. One of the two second prizes (highest achievement) of Vinh Long province comes from students of Tra On High School…
Create conditions for students to practice
Mr. Pham Viet Hung - principal of Dam Doi High School - said that since 2021, the school has had a student win second prize in physics (group of 3 students with the highest scores), and in 2022, a student won third prize in biology.
In 2024, four students won consolation prizes in biology and literature. This year, the school has two students winning prizes, including one student winning third prize in literature and one student winning consolation prize in biology. To achieve this, there is the determination of the school board, of the teachers directly teaching, and of the students.
“There are two playgrounds, Southern Summer Camp and 30-4 Olympics. I try to bring teachers to participate with students so that they can gain experience. Teachers will find out why people are good so that we can learn and gain experience in teaching,” said Mr. Hung.
