Currently, many universities and colleges organize competency assessment exams to use the results for university admission. Each unit has different regulations on exam candidates.

"11th grade students can take the university entrance exam?"

In recent days, many students and parents have continuously sent questions to Tuoi Tre newspaper, wondering: "Are 11th grade students in the 2023-2024 school year allowed to register for the 2024 competency assessment exams to test their abilities or reserve results for admission next year?".

Ms. Xuan Le (a parent whose child is studying in grade 11 at a high school in District 3, Ho Chi Minh City) said: "My daughter said that the homeroom teacher advised grade 11 students to register for the competency assessment exam to test their abilities and if they achieve high results, they can reserve the exam to apply for university admission next year. The teacher said that and the students were excited to prepare to register."

Meanwhile, Ms. My Diem in District 10, Ho Chi Minh City also said that many 11th grade students who are children of neighbors in the apartment building have gone to training classes to prepare for the competency assessment exam.

"The kids study twice a week, three hours a session. I don't understand how 11th graders can take university entrance exams these days?", Ms. Diem wondered.

Grade 11 cannot register for the National University of Ho Chi Minh City's competency assessment exam.

Talking to Tuoi Tre Online reporters about this, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh - Director of the Center for Testing and Training Quality Assessment of Ho Chi Minh City National University - said: "11th grade students are not eligible to take the exam. Since the start of the capacity assessment exam in 2018, Ho Chi Minh City National University has clearly stipulated this."

At the same time, Mr. Chinh affirmed that 11th grade students cannot register for the capacity assessment exam of Ho Chi Minh City National University.

"The registration page does not allow people born in 2007 to register. Some students who started school early (born in 2007 but are in grade 12) contacted the center for registration support. Up to now, only 2 cases born in 2007 but in grade 12 have contacted the center," Mr. Chinh added.

Registration for the exam was not possible due to incorrect information from the candidate.

Many candidates reported that the exam registration website still has many problems such as incorrect login notifications, unable to recognize images... causing difficulties for candidates.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh said that most technical problems were due to candidates not following the instructions correctly. If you have any difficulties registering, please contact the testing center via hotline or email for support.

"Statistics show that the number of cases having difficulty registering in 2024 is much less than in 2023. All cases that contacted the center have been resolved and successfully registered. As of 2:00 p.m. this afternoon, February 22, 41,124 candidates have registered, of which 37,839 have paid the fee. This coincides with the rule every year. The number of registrations increased rapidly in the last two weeks," Mr. Chinh commented.

Hanoi National University does not prohibit 11th grade students from taking the competency assessment exam

Information about the Hanoi National University Aptitude Test (HSA) clearly states that the candidates are students studying in grade 12 of high school or equivalent; those who have graduated from high school (or equivalent or higher) within 3 years from the year of the exam. In other cases, those who wish to take the exam should contact the examination council for consideration and decision.

However, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tien Thao - Director of the Examination Center of Hanoi National University - said: "The main subjects taking the HSA exam are students studying the 12th grade program. Grade 11 is not prohibited or encouraged.

Because 11th graders do not have declared high school scores, they cannot accurately declare their exam records. HSA exam does not encourage 11th graders to take the exam because the score cannot exceed 70".

Ho Chi Minh City University of Education allows 11th grade students to take the exam

According to MSc. Nguyen Ngoc Trung - Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, this year's specialized competency assessment exam will continue to be organized by the school with 6 exams: mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, literature, and English.

Candidates can choose to register for one or more of the above exams to apply for admission to majors that apply the admission method based on the school's admission plan.

Candidates register for the exam and pay the registration fee online, and have the right to choose the appropriate exam session and location. Candidates take the exam on computers at the exam locations organized by the school.

"The results of the specialized competency assessment exam are reserved for admission consideration within 2 years. Accordingly, 11th grade students can completely register to take the exam to use the admission results for the following year. In addition, individuals who wish to learn about the exam and the exam are also allowed to register to take the exam," said Mr. Trung.

Meanwhile, the candidates for the Hanoi National University of Education's competency assessment exam are 12th graders who have graduated from high school (or equivalent) and need to take the competency assessment exam to get admission results to universities.

Candidates choose to register for a number of exams in the following subjects: math, literature, English, physics, chemistry, biology, history, geography and use the exam results to register for admission to regular university training programs according to the requirements of each university.
