Ms. Pham Thi Ngoc Minh - Permanent Vice President of the Fatherland Front Committee of District 1 said that since the beginning of the 2019 - 2020 period, the whole district has had more than 300 poor households and 746 near-poor households. In order to continue mobilizing the participation of social resources in supporting the poor, at the end of 2019, the "For the Poor" Action Day Model in District 1 was officially launched.
According to Ms. Minh, the model’s method of operation is to choose the first Saturday of the month as “Action Day”. In which, the Fatherland Front of each ward coordinates with member organizations, Poverty Reduction Committee, Party Committee, Neighborhood Front Work Committee… to select poor households to assign forces to visit and care for; promptly propose support for households in urgent and unexpected difficulties.
Thanks to close coordination, the model has achieved many practical results. Specifically, in 2020, the District 1 Fatherland Front and 10 wards carried out 156 "Days of Action", connecting and supporting the care of 69,000 people, with a total amount of money, gifts, and care items estimated at nearly 7 billion VND. In 2021, the district Fatherland Front system continued to carry out more than 50 times with the models "Kitchen of Love", "Religious establishments join hands for the pandemic", "Da Kao's affection", "Loving meals", "Visiting each house - checking each household" ... taking care of thousands of meals every day, more than 20,000 bags of necessities, mobilizing to reduce and exempt rent for over 900 rooms, with an estimated cost of nearly 2 billion VND. In 2022, the District Front system organized 58 "Days of Action for the Poor", taking care of nearly 13,000 households in difficult circumstances, with a budget of over 5.7 billion VND...
"Currently, the Fatherland Front of District 1 has expanded this model to many areas and has received the support and participation of religious and belief establishments, agencies, units, and benefactors," Ms. Minh informed.
As a regular recipient of the above support, Ms. Thi Mah (66 years old, Cham ethnic group, Cau Kho ward, District 1) shared that she is raising 2 small children alone, so her life is difficult. Understanding her situation, every year, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the government, and the neighborhood support her family with living expenses, give gifts, and support her 2 children with scholarships.
Ms. Thi Mah said that her family has overcome difficulties so far, her two children have graduated and are working, earning income to support the family. “Today is thanks to the help of the Fatherland Front and the authorities at all levels. In addition, other poor families where I live have also received very thoughtful support. I will never forget that wholehearted help,” said Ms. Thi Mah.
In addition to production and business, the Chinese ethnic people, especially the Associations in District 5, have coordinated with the District Fatherland Front to carry out many meaningful social security activities. Mr. Le Tan Tai - Chairman of the District Fatherland Front Committee said that in the process of supporting the poor, the District Fatherland Front realized that promoting the role of the Chinese Associations in implementing social security in the area is a meaningful task that needs to be done immediately.
Specifically, the district Fatherland Front has mobilized the Associations to participate in providing regular monthly sponsorship to disadvantaged households in the area. In addition, it has coordinated with the Associations to deliver directly to people's homes, helping households have additional income to cover their daily living expenses.
Each Association receives sponsorship from 7 to 28 households/month. Every month, the Association visits each house to visit and provide sponsorship, giving gifts including essential necessities such as: rice, milk, MSG, instant noodles, fish sauce, and household utensils to the elderly and lonely households who are unable to move.
According to statistics from the Fatherland Front Committee of District 5, up to now, the Associations have mobilized and contributed to support the poor with great efficiency. In particular, they mobilized nearly 10 billion VND for the "For the Poor" Fund; awarded more than 1,000 Nguyen Huu Tho scholarships to encourage learning, encourage talents, and study for students and pupils who have overcome difficulties and become ethnic minorities, with a total amount of 1.2 billion VND; supported surgery costs and medicine for poor patients in some hospitals, with an amount of nearly 8 billion VND; contributed to support people in provinces affected by natural disasters and floods, and supported the "For the homeland's seas and islands - For the frontline of the Fatherland" Fund with nearly 3 billion VND. The Associations also provided long-term sponsorship for 1,140 near-poor households and households in difficult circumstances with a total amount of more than 10 billion VND.
Through the Campaign “For the Poor” associated with the implementation of the Campaign “All people unite to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas”, the district Fatherland Front has proactively coordinated with the Associations and the Hoa ethnic people in many practical ways and activities. “Therefore, the campaign has received the consensus of all classes and people to actively participate in caring activities. Thereby, promoting the spirit of great national solidarity, mutual love, mutual assistance in the Hoa ethnic community” - Mr. Tai said.
At the Conference to review the mobilization and management of the Fund "For the Poor", the Fund "For the Sea and Islands of the Homeland - For the Frontline of the Fatherland" and the work of caring for the Lunar New Year 2024 organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front Committee on March 22, Mr. Pham Minh Tuan - Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front Committee said that in 2023, the Fund "For the Poor" mobilized more than 245 billion VND, the Relief Fund mobilized 944 million VND, the Fund "For the Sea and Islands of the Homeland - For the Frontline of the Fatherland" mobilized nearly 62 billion VND. Thanks to this mobilization source, care activities are organized more, the subjects are more diverse, the content of care for the subjects is increasingly practical, especially caring for the people in difficulty and officers and soldiers working in the border areas and islands of the Fatherland. Of which, the "For the Poor" Fund takes care of more than 270 billion 800 million VND, 9 billion 840 million VND from the "Relief" Fund, the "For the homeland's seas and islands - For the frontline of the Fatherland" Fund is more than 30 billion VND...
