On the night of April 4 in Saudi Arabia, U17 Vietnam had a 1-1 draw with U17 Australia in the first match of Group B of the 2025 AFC U17 Championship finals.
Speaking after the match, coach Cristiano Roland highly appreciated the team's fighting spirit: "The match was very difficult. At first, the players could not get into the game well, but in the second half they got used to the speed of the game and played better. The players showed the Vietnamese spirit, the spirit of not giving up. I am very proud of them.
We scored and created more chances. We were lucky, but it was the players' efforts.
To be fair, we had many opportunities to score more goals, but we couldn't take advantage of them. The players played hard to get an important point today."
The Brazilian coach hopes that the result of this match will boost the team's morale before entering the next two matches against U17 Japan (April 7) and U17 UAE (April 10).
He said: "In this group, every match is extremely difficult, including the upcoming match against Japan. That is an extremely difficult match for U17 Vietnam.
We still follow the set goals, preparing the best for each match. U17 Vietnam will study the opponent, prepare tactics to be ready to take the field with the highest determination for the match with Japan."
