Coach Polking is right.
Coach Alexandre Polking's statement implying that Ha Tinh's pitch is bad has touched a sore spot in Vietnamese football for a long time. That is the ugly, bare grass pitch that has the potential to cause injury to players.
Coach Polking is right about the reality of V-League pitches
Recently, Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF) has sent a document reminding and requesting the two clubs Binh Dinh and Ha Tinh to find all measures to overcome the serious degradation of the grass on the playing field.
However, criticizing the V-League pitch is like saying "I know, it's hard, I keep saying it". Many barriers such as mechanism, economy, investment strategy have made many V-League teams accept bad pitches in recent years.
CAHN Club needs more from Coach Polking
However, speaking up to expect change is one thing. When the pitches in V-League are unlikely to change in the near future, Coach Polking and CAHN Club need to learn to adapt.
The Ha Tinh pitch prevented CAHN from implementing a style of play that focused on controlling and dominating the opponent based on short, smooth passes and passes. However, this was not a problem. Because right before that, in the match against SLNA on the more beautiful Hang Day pitch, CAHN was also held to a 1-1 draw by their opponent.
Coach Polking needs to leave more mark
Coach Polking’s students also lost to Thanh Hoa (Hang Day Stadium), lost to HAGL (Pleiku Stadium), or drew with Hai Phong (Lach Tray Stadium), on grass fields that are theoretically better than Ha Tinh Stadium. Therefore, not only the quality of the field, but also the playing style of CAHN Club in V-League probably needs to be re-evaluated.
Possessing domestic players wearing national team jerseys such as Quang Hai, Nguyen Filip, Thanh Long, Viet Anh, overseas Vietnamese star Jason Quang Vinh, and top foreign players in V-League such as Leo Artur, Alan Grafite or Vitao, but CAHN Club is only in the middle of the table, 8 points behind the leading team Nam Dinh.
Since taking over CAHN Club, Coach Polking has changed his philosophy. The players control the ball more, work hard to pass and pass the ball to control the game. But the results have not been effective.
In the domestic league alone, CAHN Club has only won 1 of the last 5 matches, earning 5/15 maximum points. Since Mr. Polking took the "hot seat", the former V-League champion has played 16 matches, with a record of 6 wins, 4 draws and 6 losses, earning 22/48 maximum points.
Despite controlling the ball better than the opponent in most matches (about 60-65%), CAHN Club only scored 26 goals after 16 matches, which is an average of 1.62 goals/match.
Before Mr. Polking arrived, CAHN Club was second in the V-League table. Currently, the team is seventh, 5 places and 5 points behind the same period last season.
Compared to his predecessors like Gong Oh-kyun and Kiatisak, Coach Polking has not created any breakthroughs. Even in terms of results, CAHN Club has gone backwards.
The poor pitch is an undeniable fact, but it is only part of the picture in Coach Polking's story.
The German strategist has made his mark by contributing his voice to make the V-League stadium more beautiful. However, CAHN Club needs another voice from Mr. Polking, shown on the football field.
Match against Quang Nam at 7:15 pm tomorrow (February 15), when the field is beautiful, will CAHN Club win?
