(Dan Tri) - Special angles from a helicopter at an altitude of 2,000m show that Dien Bien Phu City is undergoing a major transformation. The airport is being expanded, the urban area is bustling, and the Muong Thanh fields are green and refreshing.

Dien Bien Phu City is 455km northwest of Hanoi Capital. The city center is located on Muong Thanh field with a length of about 23km, a width of about 6-8km, and a total area of about 160km2.

Observation from a helicopter flying at an altitude of 500m to 2,000m, the most prominent is Dien Bien Airport (also known as Muong Thanh Airport because it was previously built by the French colonialists on the Muong Thanh field). At the end of 2023, Dien Bien Airport completed its upgrade and reopened, welcoming many airlines to operate flights. In particular, Dien Bien Airport has increased the length of the take-off/landing runway from 1,830m to 2,400m, helping it accommodate code C aircraft (Airbus A321 and equivalent).

On the morning of April 18, Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) officially put into operation the new air traffic control tower of Dien Bien airport on an area of 6,150 square meters. The cabin on top of the tower is 62.5 square meters wide, ensuring working space for 15 people, and can install many civil and military air traffic control equipment.

Dien Bien Airport has synchronously exploited items including new runway, new passenger terminal and new air traffic control tower. Thereby, in recent days, it has promptly welcomed many passenger flights, military aircraft and helicopters to ensure good service for the upcoming 70th Anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory.

When the helicopter flies over the center of Dien Bien Phu City, it is possible to observe all the major historical works and relics at the same time such as: Dien Bien Phu Victory Monument; A1 Hill Relic; A1 Martyrs Cemetery; Dien Bien Phu Victory Museum; Martyrs Temple at Dien Bien Phu battlefield; Dien Bien Provincial Stadium; Muong Thanh Bridge and Thanh Binh Bridge across Nam Rom River.

Dien Bien Phu Victory Monument is built on top of D1 hill. The prominent structure can always be observed from all over the city because it is located on the highest hill in Dien Bien Phu city.

Muong Thanh Bridge crosses the Nam Rom River, right on the other side of the bridge is the old Muong Thanh market.
