Promoting the role of women in environmental protection and responding to climate change, in recent times, the Women's Union at all levels of Ninh Binh city has implemented many good models and effective methods to preserve the living environment, create a green - clean - beautiful landscape, including the implementation of the Green House model.
Since the end of October, some cultural houses in Ninh Khanh ward, Nam Thanh have appeared with lovely "Green Houses", attracting the attention of the people. The houses are made of iron, have roofs and surrounding nets, and are painted green to make them more eye-catching. This is where cadres, members, women and people collect scrap and plastic waste, thereby raising funds to help women and children in difficult circumstances in the area.
Every afternoon, the Khanh Minh Street Cultural House, Ninh Khanh Ward, always has sports and entertainment activities for the people. Afterwards, some plastic waste such as soft drink bottles, milk tea bottles, etc. are thrown away or gathered into small piles in the yard of the cultural house, causing loss of aesthetics and affecting the surrounding landscape. When the "Green House" model was established, people had a place to throw their trash, thereby forming the habit of throwing trash in the right place, contributing to improving the living environment.
Ms. Pham Thi Phuc, Head of Khanh Minh Women's Association, shared: "Khanh Minh Women's Association was chosen by Ninh Khanh Ward Women's Association as a location to implement the Green House model. As soon as it was implemented, the model received enthusiastic response from women's members and residents. On weekday afternoons, women collect water bottles and recyclable plastic items and bring them to the Green House. After that, the waste is classified and sold to raise funds to support women and children in difficult circumstances in the city. After a month of implementation, we have collected nearly 400,000 VND".
The establishment of the Green House has contributed to raising people's awareness of waste classification and treatment. Ms. Nguyen Thi Bao, a member of the Khanh Minh Women's Union, said: "Since the Green House was established, instead of throwing away plastic waste with organic waste, we have classified the waste and brought it to the Green House of the street."
Currently, Ninh Binh city has established 7 Green House models, concentrated in Nam Thanh and Ninh Khanh wards. Although it has only been implemented for a short time, the model is showing clear effectiveness.
Comrade Nguyen Thi Dung, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Nam Thanh Ward informed: "The collection of scrap to raise funds has been implemented by the Women's Union of the ward since 2016. However, the scale of the model is only within the Union levels. The installation of Green Houses at cultural houses in the streets helps the model spread to all classes of people, thereby improving the effectiveness of propaganda, contributing to changing people's awareness in environmental protection and waste classification. In fact, in Nam Thanh Ward, the Green House model is not only responded to by women but also enthusiastically supported by the Party Committee, government, mass organizations and people".
Mr. Phan Van Hue, Head of Phuc Chinh 2 Residential Group, Nam Thanh Ward, is one of the people who actively participate in contributing to the Green House model. "When the model was deployed, we accompanied women to collect plastic waste in many places from families, to streets, stadiums, etc. to bring to the green house. Just a small action like throwing garbage in the right place will create great meaning for the environment and surrounding landscape, especially in the context of increasingly serious environmental pollution and plastic waste pollution. In the coming time, we will continue to accompany and support women so that the Green House model will spread more and more effectively" - Mr. Hue expressed.
The Green House model collects plastic waste and raises funds to support poor women and children, which is one of the new models deployed by the Ninh Binh City Women's Union in 2023.
Comrade Nguyen Thi Oanh, Chairwoman of the City Women's Union, said: "At the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2023, the City Women's Union directed the Women's Unions of Ninh Khanh and Nam Thanh wards to build the Green House model. Up to now, 7 Green Houses have been established in 2 wards and have had positive results. In 2024, we will deploy the model to all communes and wards in the city, thereby promoting the role of women in environmental protection, building civilized urban areas as well as accompanying and supporting disadvantaged women and children in the area."
