Bringing Dak Nong chicken closer to consumers
Following her parents from her hometown of Nam Dinh to live in Dak Nong when she was young, Lan has long considered this her second hometown. Sharing with us about the opportunity to start a business, Lan said that in recent years, hill-climbing chicken has become one of the favorite foods not only in Dak Nong but also in many other localities. Different from regular chickens, hill-climbing chickens are raised on mountainous terrain. Thanks to this different raising environment, hill-climbing chickens have high quality meat and nutrition.

“Dak Nong chickens are raised free-range and fed with natural food, so the chicken meat is delicious, fragrant, and clean, without worrying about containing residual drugs or bran. With the “Organic Hill-climbing Chicken” model, I cherish the dream of bringing Dak Nong chickens closer to consumers across the country,” Ms. Lan shared.
In 2022, Ms. Lan and her husband, Mr. Tran Van Hieu, founded the Chicken World Company, specializing in providing products from hill-climbing chickens. With his knowledge and experience over many years working in the veterinary industry, Mr. Hieu supported Ms. Lan in establishing standards for raising hill-climbing chickens, becoming a trusted companion throughout Ms. Lan's startup process with Dak Nong chicken flocks.
Relatives are allies
Once they had mastered the techniques of raising chickens, the most difficult problem for Lan and her husband at that time was finding a source of chicken supply. When they first started their business, with not much capital in hand, Lan's family could not focus on raising thousands of chickens. At that time, the couple thought of finding "allies" who were the locals to work together.
“Living with the people, I understand the difficulties of chicken farmers. Because they raise small quantities and have uneven quality, their chickens are often forced down by traders and sold at low prices. Therefore, I hope the model will help people feel secure in raising chickens, both selling quality chickens and ensuring a stable income,” said Ms. Lan.

Thinking is doing, Lan and her husband went to the districts to find households raising chickens. Then they explained to the people about the chicken raising model according to standards and the benefits of working with them. To reassure the people, Lan's family committed to covering the output price at 80,000 VND/kg. In addition, Lan's family regularly visits the house, providing technical guidance and support whenever the people encounter difficulties in the process of raising hill-climbing chickens. Up to now, 10 households in different districts in the province have trusted and participated in the chicken supply chain for Lan's company.
Currently, products from the “Organic Hill-climbing Chicken” model such as clean chicken eggs and fresh vacuum-packed hill-climbing chicken of Ms. Lan’s family are distributed in traditional markets, restaurants, and eateries in Dak Nong, Binh Phuoc provinces and Ho Chi Minh City.
In addition, to diversify products, Lan and her husband also learned the recipe for making salt and pepper chicken to help consumers have new experiences with products made from hill-climbing chicken.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Oanh, Dak R'la commune, Dak Mil district, who specializes in supplying chickens to Ms. Lan's family, said that in 2022, Ms. Lan introduced her to the organic hill-climbing chicken farming model and she agreed to participate. Up to now, Ms. Oanh's family has exported 4 batches of chickens, each batch of about 1,000 chickens, bringing in an income of 20-30 million VND/batch.
“When working with Ms. Lan, my family has a stable income, no worries about output or raising costs because the chickens are mainly fed natural foods, taken advantage of right in the home garden such as avocado, grass,... Ms. Lan's family guides me on how to raise chickens, so I feel very secure when participating in the model,” Ms. Oanh shared.
First prize "Women's Entrepreneurship Day"
With the spirit of starting a business without fear of difficulties, at the end of August 2024, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan's "Organic Hill-climbing Chicken" model won first prize in the "Women's Entrepreneurship Day" Contest in Dak Nong province in 2024. Sharing her joy at receiving the award, Ms. Lan said that this is a recognition and a source of encouragement to help her and her family continue to strive to create products that are good for consumers' health, exploit advantages, and bring economic benefits to local people.
It is known that in response to the provincial “Women’s Entrepreneurship Day” competition, the whole district had 9 ideas and startup models of women members participating. Among them, the “Organic Hill-climbing Chicken” model of Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan, Duc An town, entered the final round and won first prize in the competition.
Ms. Do Thi Minh Hai, President of the Dak Song District Women's Union, assessed that Ms. Lan had promptly grasped the market's needs, while still taking advantage of local raw materials to create clean, safe food sources for consumers. Ms. Lan knew how to apply advanced technology to help protect the environment. In addition, Ms. Lan also cooperated with households in livestock farming and created jobs for local people. Thereby, not only helping to develop the family economy but also helping local people stabilize their lives.
