The 2023 university and college admissions consultation day took place simultaneously in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City on the morning of July 22, with the presence of many leading admissions experts and over 300 consulting booths from schools.
At the general consultation session of the festival, experts from the Ministry of Education and Training and experts from a number of prestigious training institutions listened to and directly exchanged necessary information with candidates and parents; answered questions in the process of learning about majors, schools, admission methods as well as effective steps to register for admission.
Within the framework of the festival, with over 300 consulting booths of universities, academies, colleges, and vocational training institutions, candidates also have access to complete and reliable information on enrollment regulations, admission regulations, information on tuition fees, scholarships, learning environment, university life, and job opportunities.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy, Director of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training) said: Up to this point, only about 390,000 candidates have registered their wishes on the Ministry of Education and Training's admission system (accounting for about 1/3 of the total number of candidates taking the 2023 High School Graduation Exam). Of which, about 72,000 candidates have only registered one wish. Therefore, the Director of the Department of Higher Education advised that candidates should not only register one wish but should have several wishes. If there is a risk for the candidate, the Ministry's system will continue to consider admission so that the candidate has other opportunities. At the same time, candidates should note to put their most favorite and most suitable wishes at the top.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy also noted that, in reality, since last year, many candidates have been admitted by early admission but did not register their eligible admission wishes on the Ministry of Education and Training's admission system. Such cases have lost their own chances of admission. Even if the schools confirm that the candidates have been admitted with conditions, the candidates still have to do the final step of registering their admission wishes, including early admission wishes and admission wishes based on high school graduation exam scores, on the Ministry of Education and Training's admission system and pay the full fee for the registered wishes.
In response to a parent's concern that the Ministry of Education and Training's failure to control the number of applications will cause complications in the admission process and that one candidate may "take over" many other candidates; at the same time, schools are using too many admission methods, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy said: The Law on Higher Education gives schools autonomy in developing admission methods. Whether or not to use the early admission method depends on the needs of the candidates. If they do not want to, candidates can still use the admission method based on exam scores.
Regarding not controlling the number of candidates' wishes, this is a way to increase the candidates' opportunities, not to cause difficulties for them. The Ministry of Education and Training has a solution to reduce the virtual situation by requiring candidates to register all their wishes on the Ministry's admission system. Accordingly, even if a candidate registers many wishes, they will still only be determined to be admitted to one wish with the highest priority in the candidate's wish list. Therefore, candidates who register many wishes do not "take up space" for other candidates as parents worry.
Answering parents' questions about whether candidates registering their wishes using high school graduation exam scores need to register on the school system, the Director of the Department of Higher Education affirmed: With the admission method using high school graduation exam scores, candidates only register on the Ministry's admission system. Candidates check the admission section with high school graduation exam score data.
Regarding the issue of retaining results after being notified of admission, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy said: In case of wanting to retain, first of all, the candidate must confirm admission to the school he/she has been admitted to. If not confirmed, the candidate is considered to have refused admission, the school will recruit another candidate. After registering for admission, the candidate must study for a semester, for example. Then, explain to the school the reason for the temporary suspension and the school may allow the candidate to retain the results.
In some cases, candidates who have not officially started studying but have to do military service or have a medical reason and have confirmation from a professional agency, the school may also allow them to reserve their results. However, this is a very special case. Therefore, it is possible to reserve the admission results, but it must be in accordance with the regulations, not everyone reserves the results to try studying elsewhere.
