Some sources say Apple is planning to upgrade the camera on the iPhone 17 Pro Max with a 48 MP Tetraprism lens to improve image quality.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max product line is expected to be launched by Apple in 2025. The most notable point is that this model is equipped with a Tetraprism zoom lens with a 48 MP sensor, 19% larger than the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro models.
Will iPhone 17 Pro Max have 3 48MP cameras in the future? |
According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will mark a major step forward in Apple's mobile camera technology with an upgraded 48MP Tetraprism camera with improved zoom functionality. Specifically, in his latest note, Kuo wrote that the main spec change will be a 1/2.6-inch 48MP CIS sensor, which promises to deliver superior photo and video capabilities.
It is not yet clear whether the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be the only iPhone model equipped with a 48 MP Tetraprism zoom lens by Apple. However, if this prediction is correct, this will be a bold move by Apple, creating a significant difference compared to competitors in the market.
To make it easier to visualize, the iPhone 15 Pro models are currently only equipped by Apple with a 48MP main lens, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a 12MP telephoto lens.
Kuo added that if this plan does not come true on the iPhone 17 Pro Max, it is likely that the iPhone 18 Pro, which will be launched in late 2026, will be equipped with an upgraded Tetraprism lens by Apple. The design of this sensor is also said to change, helping to reduce the size and save space inside the device.
