Technology car companies have regulations to strictly handle traffic violations such as running red lights, going the wrong way, and weaving by driver partners.

Multiple violations

Since the ride-hailing app entered the Vietnamese market, the technology-based motorbike taxi service has also become familiar to the people. However, in recent times, the situation of many technology drivers violating traffic laws such as reckless driving, running red lights, and going the wrong way has made many traffic participants angry.

According to the reporter, at many intersections on some streets in Hanoi, technology motorbike taxis stopped at red lights but crossed the solid line. They even blocked the pedestrian crossing.

Technology car companies all have a Code of Conduct to strictly handle drivers who violate traffic laws.

Not only that, although the signs prohibiting traffic and prohibiting going in the wrong direction have been placed in relatively clear positions, some technology drivers still go in because they want to shorten the travel distance.

The violation of traffic laws by technology-based motorbike taxi drivers not only poses a potential risk of causing accidents for the drivers and passengers, but also endangers other vehicles on the road.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tuan, a motorbike taxi driver for Grab, said that technology companies such as Grab and Be have issued a Code of Conduct for driver partners to sign before operating.

This set of rules includes regulations on information registration, safety regulations and service quality. It includes the content that the driver's account will be temporarily or permanently blocked from the application if violated.

"Technology car companies have many regulations that drivers must follow. Drivers learn in general, but if a passenger reports and evaluates that person violating the code of conduct, they will be dealt with," said Mr. Tuan.

In fact, technology car companies have the tools and forces to verify, monitor and handle drivers who violate the law. However, according to Mr. Bui Van Hung, a technology driver, in order to achieve the bonus, many drivers have a mentality of rushing, driving carelessly, saving time, and quickly finishing a trip to get a new trip.

Lawyer Nguyen Danh Hue, Hanoi Bar Association, assessed that the Code of Conduct that technology companies build for drivers not only ensures the internal operations of the company but also has an impact on traffic activities and social safety.

The problem is not the content of the Code of Conduct but the mechanism for implementing the rules. In the context of competition between technology car companies to attract drivers and passengers, monitoring drivers' compliance with the rules needs to be focused on by car companies.

No compromise with violation

To limit drivers from violating traffic laws, many technology car companies have issued a set of rules, requiring drivers to attend a basic training course before being licensed to use the application, in addition, there are separate sanctions for drivers who violate the law.

Specifically, for technology car company Grab, this unit said that before joining the Grab platform, all driver partners need to complete their personal profile, fully participate in training courses on services organized by Grab such as safe driving regulations, code of conduct... After completing the required procedures and training programs of Grab, the registered partner will officially become a Grab driver partner.

"Every week, Grab will update the driver-partner's safety driving report on the Grab Driver application. This report includes updates related to the driver's vehicle driving speed during the partner's operation, helping driver-partners to refer to and proactively improve their vehicle driving skills.

Grab has developed a code of conduct for drivers, which sets out guidelines on service standards, prohibited behaviors, and disciplinary measures. In the event that a driver-partner is found to have violated the Traffic Law, Grab will apply appropriate sanctions as stipulated in the code of conduct that the driver has committed to, with the highest level of punishment being permanent suspension of the right to use the Grab application," said a Grab representative.

Grab also launched the "Mystery Passenger Journey" program to randomly check service quality and driver compliance during service provision via the application.

Violations of traffic laws such as causing accidents due to drivers not complying with legal regulations, covering license plates, dangerous driving, non-compliance, when receiving many feedbacks from passengers about unsafe driving, receiving many warnings from the system about unsafe speed driving, the driver may have their right to use the application temporarily suspended for 7-14 days or permanently suspended.

Along with mandatory training courses, Grab focuses on building additional and advanced online training programs on safe driving, with content focusing on handling situations such as: instructing drivers on how to handle unexpected situations and limit traffic accidents, and safe driving skills at night.

In addition, through social media channels, Grab regularly promotes and disseminates to raise awareness among driver partners in complying with and abiding by traffic safety regulations.

Grab's application also has safety features and supports drivers to comply with traffic safety such as "Speed warning", "Reminder for rest", "Safe driving report", "Safety enhancement radio"...

Grab uses a variety of methods to record and handle driver violations. Thanks to the online speed warning feature on the app, Grab has recorded and handled cases of speeding violations nationwide every month. For drivers who frequently violate speed limits, Grab can consider applying sanctions based on the Code of Conduct between driver partners and Grab, the most severe form of punishment being permanent termination of cooperation.

At the same time, through the channel receiving customer feedback on drivers violating traffic safety regulations, Grab will record, verify and take appropriate measures, including reminders, requests for mandatory training courses and permanent cooperation depending on the level and frequency of violations.

"Grab is committed to a zero-tolerance policy for violations, which may result in the driver's account being temporarily or permanently blocked from the Grab app," said a Grab representative.
