Co Lung strives to build new countryside

Co Lung Commune (Ba Thuoc) promotes its potential and advantages to develop community tourism, associated with new rural construction.

With the starting point of being a particularly difficult commune, with uneven educational levels, fragmented agricultural production, and lack of infrastructure, when starting to build a new rural area, the Party Committee, government, and people of Co Lung commune encountered many difficulties and obstacles. With high political determination, the commune has built a plan to implement specific, methodical, and clear-cut new rural criteria.

In order to create high consensus from the people, the Party Committee, the government, the Fatherland Front and the political organizations of the commune have promoted propaganda work on the purpose and significance of the New Rural Development Program for the socio-economic development of the locality. Thanks to good propaganda work, each person and community understands the meaning of the New Rural Development Program as "using the people's strength to care for the people", the people are the main subjects in New Rural Development, and also the beneficiaries of the achievements that the New Rural Development brings. Thereby, many people have gradually changed their thinking, proactively contributing their efforts and money to implement the New Rural Development criteria.

Combining the new rural development with the development of community tourism and taking agriculture as the foundation for local economic development, Co Lung commune has gradually rearranged production towards commodities. In the rice cultivation areas, the commune proactively guides people to implement the method of planting in wide and narrow rows combined with deep fertilizer application. Thanks to that, the productivity and output of rice in Co Lung commune have been continuously improved. In 2024, the productivity reached 58 quintals/ha, the output reached more than 1,819 tons.

In addition, the Party Committee, the government, the Fatherland Front, and local political organizations have mobilized the ineffective forest hills and gardens of local households to transform them into fruit orchards with an income of tens of millions of VND per year. Along with that, the commune has integrated support capital from 3 national target programs, including: The socio-economic development program for ethnic minorities and mountainous areas; The sustainable poverty reduction program and the New Rural Development Program, to support people in building and replicating the Co Lung duck farming model to supply Pu Luong Eco-tourism Area. Economic activities and effective production models have helped the economic life of local people continuously increase, with an average income per capita of 35 million VND/person/year, and the poverty rate reduced to 8.99%.

Mr. Nguyen Nam Phong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Co Lung Commune, said: “As a commune located in the buffer zone of Pu Luong Nature Reserve, realizing the potential and inherent advantages to develop eco-tourism, community tourism, and increase income for people, the commune has issued a specialized resolution on "Developing community tourism". There are currently 21 households operating community guesthouses in the commune. In 2024, the commune welcomed 16,800 visitors to visit and relax at tourist sites and areas in the area. And the revenue from service and tourism activities reached 8.4 billion VND, creating regular jobs for more than 100 local workers. Thanks to that, the people in the commune actively join hands to contribute money and labor to build new rural areas".

In 2024, the total capital mobilized to implement the new rural construction of Co Lung commune will reach over 9,912 billion VND. From the mobilized capital, the commune has focused on investing in the construction of essential infrastructure works, such as building the cultural houses of Lac village and Ten Moi village, upgrading the commune's stadium, and building roads to Hieu waterfall. The infrastructure works built and upgraded not only effectively serve the task of local socio-economic development, but are also changing the face of Co Lung countryside. Up to now, Co Lung commune has achieved 12/19 new rural criteria.

Although there are many difficulties ahead, the Party Committee, government and people of Co Lung commune continue to unite and are determined to successfully carry out the task of building a new rural area as soon as possible.
