ANTD.VN - Supermarkets and traditional markets are quite deserted even though there are less than 2 weeks left until the Lunar New Year 2025. Small traders are also cautious about importing Tet goods.

Ms. Tran Thi Thuong (a dry goods trader at Thanh Cong market) said: “It’s almost Tet but the market is deserted. Like previous years, I sold a ton of bamboo shoots, vermicelli, and wood ear mushrooms every day, but this year, on a good day I sell nearly 20kg. Even though my customers keep reporting that I don’t dare import goods to sell, I’m afraid they won’t sell.”

According to Ms. Thuong, the price of dried goods during Tet this year has increased insignificantly, depending on the type. In the mid-range segment, dried bamboo shoots cost 350,000-400,000 VND/kg; vermicelli 110,000 VND/kg; wood ear mushrooms 250,000 VND/kg. Currently, customers buying dried goods are scattered but each person only buys small quantities.

At My Dinh market, the stalls with more customers are selling votive offerings and dried foods. Ms. Duong Thi Yen (a vendor at My Dinh market) said: “The 23rd of Ong Cong Ong Tao is coming up, so many families are buying votive offerings to worship. Many customers have also gradually bought incense, flowers, and cakes to avoid the rush near Tet. However, sales are still slow compared to previous years.”

Many retailers believe that this year’s Tet sales will be slower as people tighten their spending and only prioritize essential goods. People also tend to buy just enough instead of hoarding because stores are open almost continuously and have promotions and discounts all year round.

At major supermarkets such as Winmart Le Duc Tho and GO! Thang Long (formerly Big C Thang Long), weekends are more crowded than usual. The number of customers increases by about 30% compared to normal days, but there is still no congestion in shopping or payment.

For nearly a month now, supermarkets have been displaying and introducing various types of candies, beer, wine, and Tet gift baskets in eye-catching locations to attract customers. In addition, supermarkets also run promotions, discounts, gifts, and combo sales so that customers can enjoy incentives. However, it has been noted that these stalls are quite empty.

In addition to the above essential items, many types of home cleaning chemicals for Tet; processed foods, cooking oil, fish sauce, etc. also have promotional programs.

Working with the Ministry of Industry and Trade on the supply of goods for Tet At Ty 2025, Mr. Nguyen The Hiep - Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade said that up to now, essential goods for Tet are relatively abundant and ready to serve people's consumption needs.

Hanoi's self-sufficiency basically meets the demand for some products such as: Pork, poultry, poultry eggs, freshwater seafood (mainly fish); the remaining groups of products can meet about 20% - 60% of demand. The remaining shortage and regional products serving the diverse needs of local consumers are exploited from other provinces, cities and imported.

According to Ms. Ha Thi Thu Trang - Head of Marketing Department - Wincommerce General Trading Service Joint Stock Company - Hanoi branch, it is forecasted that purchasing power during the Lunar New Year 2025 will increase by about 20% compared to normal days. The supermarket system has proactively stockpiled goods early with a reserve increase of 10-20%, ensuring that the amount of goods is enough to meet people's consumption needs throughout the Tet holiday.

“Supermarkets and stores nationwide in general and the branch in Hanoi in particular will operate until 12:00 on the 29th of Tet and reopen on the 4th of Tet, said Ms. Ha Thi Thu Trang.

Ms. Tran Thu Quynh - Purchasing Director of the North and Central regions - Aeon Vietnam Co., Ltd. also said that the system has prepared a 115-120% increase in goods compared to normal, at the same time, working with key suppliers, planning warehouses, and promotional programs to ensure the best response to consumer needs.

Regarding Lunar New Year operating hours, the supermarket will close at 8pm on the 29th of Tet and reopen at 12pm on the 1st of Tet.

According to Mr. Nguyen Minh Tuan - Director of GO! Thang Long Supermarket, sales this week have started to increase sharply, the number of customers coming to the supermarket has doubled compared to the previous week. The supermarket also aims to increase revenue this Tet holiday from 10-50%.
