Airlines plan to increase flights by more than 20% for the April 30 - May 1 holiday

To meet the increased travel demand during the April 30 and May 1 holidays, Vietnamese airlines plan to increase domestic flights by more than 20%, with a total of 7,536 flights operated during the 11 peak days (April 25 - May 5, 2025).

According to information from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), during the April 30 - May 1 holiday (from April 25 to May 5, 2025), domestic airlines are expected to operate a total of 7,536 flights, an average of 685 flights per day, an increase of 24% and 21% respectively compared to the original flight schedule and the same period last year.

The total number of seats provided during this period reached about 1.5 million, an increase of 20% compared to the unadjusted flight schedule and 22% compared to the same period last year.

Flights to/from Ho Chi Minh City account for a large proportion, with 5,083 flights, an average of 462 flights/day, providing 1.03 million seats, an increase of more than 21%. The Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route is expected to operate 1,261 flights, providing about 305,000 seats, an increase of 8% and 7% respectively compared to the original flight schedule; an increase of 16% and 11% compared to the same period in 2024.

From May 15 to August 15, 2025 - the peak summer period, domestic airlines are expected to operate 68,558 flights, an average of 745 flights/day, an increase of 21% compared to the unadjusted flight schedule and 18% compared to the previous summer. The number of seats offered during this period will reach nearly 14 million seats, an increase of 21% and 18%.

Tourism routes to Phu Quoc, Cam Ranh, Da Lat, and Quy Nhon continue to be prioritized for increased capacity, with more than 20,000 flights, accounting for about 30% of total flights in the summer, up 32% compared to the original schedule and 20% compared to the same period. The total seats provided for this group reached nearly 4.1 million seats, up 30% and 21%.

In the group of main routes including Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Da Nang, airlines plan to operate 26,800 flights, accounting for 39% of the total number of domestic flights, up 24% and 14% respectively; providing nearly 5.9 million seats, up 22% and 14%.

In Ho Chi Minh City alone, the total number of domestic flights in the summer of 2025 is estimated at 45,000, an average of 490 flights/day, providing 9.23 million seats, an increase of 18% and 23% respectively compared to the original schedule and summer 2024.

Faced with increased travel demand, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said it has adjusted the coordination parameters at Tan Son Nhat International Airport - the place with the largest traffic volume in the country.

Specifically, during the April 30 and May 1 holidays, the dispatching parameters were increased to 46 trips/hour during the day and 36 trips/hour at night. During the peak summer season and the National Day holiday of September 2, the dispatching level during the day fluctuated from 44 to 46 trips/hour, while at night it remained at 36 trips/hour.

In addition, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam is also actively implementing related contents, coordinating with Vietnam Airports Corporation and Vietnamese airlines to prepare for the operation of Passenger Terminal T3 at Tan Son Nhat International Airport during the April 30 - May 1 holiday.
