(CLO) On December 10, the South Korean National Assembly passed a resolution demanding the arrest of President Yoon Suk Yeol and seven other officials. The resolution was passed with 191 votes in favor, 94 votes against, and three abstentions.
On the same day, the National Assembly also voted to appoint a permanent special adviser to investigate President Yoon, former Defense Minister Kim Yong Hyun, Army Chief of Staff Park An Su and other officials involved in the declaration of martial law. The bill was passed with a vote of 210-63 with 14 abstentions.
Speaking at the National Assembly, Democratic Party lawmaker Park Sung Joon explained that President Yoon was put on the list for allegedly leading a "crime of rebellion" aimed at "overthrowing" the National Assembly.
During the meeting, the Democratic Party also announced plans to impeach Justice Minister Park Sung Jae and Choi Ji Ho, head of the Korean National Police Agency.
Prime Minister Han Duck Soo, counterintelligence chief Yeo In Hyung and former PPP leader Choo Kyung Ho are also on the list of people to be investigated.
The Democratic Party will also continue to conduct a vote to impeach President Yoon on December 14.
