On the afternoon of May 26, speaking with Giao thong Newspaper, Mr. Tran Thien Canh - Director of Vietnam Railways Department said that Chi Thanh tunnel (Tuy An district, Phu Yen) continued to collapse, causing difficulties for the authorities' efforts to fix it. Therefore, it is expected that the train opening time will be delayed.
Accordingly, around noon of the same day, while workers were handling the previously collapsed soil to transport it out, the roof of the tunnel continued to collapse with a volume of about 10m3 at each end of the tunnel.
"The amount of landslide is not much, however, we feel unsafe so we stop transporting rocks and soil out and continue drilling anchors to secure the tunnel. It is expected that the time to open the ship will have to be postponed for a few days," Mr. Canh shared.

After recording additional landslides, the Chi Thanh Railway Tunnel Incident Response Team directly surveyed the landslide area and continued to discuss more effective solutions to overcome this landslide.
Previously, on May 21, a landslide occurred in the Chi Thanh railway tunnel, burying two official carriages. The volume of the collapsed soil was up to 260m3 and the area of the sinkhole was much larger than the Bai Gio tunnel in Khanh Hoa province, so the workload was much larger.
After the landslide in the Chi Thanh railway tunnel, the leaders of the Ministry of Transport directed the Vietnam Railway Authority and related units to urgently fix the problem and clear the tunnel as soon as possible.
In recent days, Mr. Tran Thien Canh, Director of Vietnam Railways Department, has been present at the scene to direct the work of overcoming the landslide incident in Chi Thanh railway tunnel.
By the morning of May 26, the relevant units had cleared about 80 cubic meters of landslides in the railway tunnel and were planning to clear the tunnel today or tomorrow, but a large amount of rock and soil continued to slide down. Thus, the original tunnel clearing plan had to be postponed until the repair was completed.
