Nguyen Anh Minh, 16, and Le Khanh Hung, 15, were among five individuals named at the VGA Golf Awards ceremony at the Hanoi Opera House on the evening of January 28.

VGA Golf Awards is hosted by the Vietnam Golf Association (VGA) to honor outstanding individuals and organizations in the industry. The latest results included seven categories, with Anh Minh winning the title of "Male Golfer of the Year" and Khanh Hung being named "Young Golfer of the Year".

The VGA Golf Awards process includes a preliminary round by public voting via an online portal, from which 3 candidates for each category are selected for the final round. The final round is based on the approval of the Professional Council established by the governing organization.

Khanh Hung and Anh Minh made history for Vietnamese golf at the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia in May 2023. At that time, Khanh Hung won the gold medal, Anh Minh won the bronze medal in the individual event and then contributed to bringing home the silver medal in the team event. Those were the first medals for Vietnamese golf in the history of the Southeast Asian Games.

Khanh Hung and Anh Minh are currently amateur golfers but both have won the VGA Tour, a professional tournament organized by the Vietnam Golf Association since 2022. In this tournament, Khanh Hung has won the Lexus Challenge 2023 while Anh Minh has won three cups, the latest of which was last October at the Vietnam Masters. In this tournament, Anh Minh won overwhelmingly when he finished first at -11, while the runner-up was only -2 on the par72 course.

After that, Anh Minh became the first Vietnamese representative to enter the top 10 in the history of the Asia-Pacific high-performance amateur tournament, through the 7th result at the 2023 tournament.

Yesterday, VGA also announced its competition plan for 2024, with seven amateur tournaments, 10 youth tournaments and five professional tournaments, including the opening event called Lexus Challenge in March with a prize fund of 85,000 USD recognized on the Asian Development Tour - a stepping stone to the Asian Tour's first-class tournament system.
