Coffee and pepper exports suspected of being "gutted": The two sides will sit down to discuss

The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) has sent a document to the authorities informing them about the above phenomenon. However, there is currently no basis to confirm where the loss of goods occurred, at which location, while the goods transported from the exporter to the importer go through many different stages, with many units involved in handling the goods.

In the immediate future, the Import-Export Department has contacted and discussed with the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association and Saigon Newport Corporation, requesting that the two sides soon sit down together, discuss directly, provide more information to clarify the cause of the incident and take measures to increase security and safety for import and export shipments. It is expected that tomorrow morning, June 13, 2024, the two sides will have a direct meeting to discuss.

Previously, as reported by Cong Thuong Newspaper, VPSA sent a petition to the Vietnam Maritime Administration and Saigon Newport Corporation regarding the shortage of goods when exporting at Cat Lai port.

Specifically, VPSA Association continuously received feedback from Association members about import partners reporting a shortage of pepper and coffee detected at the destination port compared to the previously signed contract.

Currently, 5 VPSA members have been reported about the situation of pepper and coffee being "gutted" at Cat Lai port. The summary table shows that the volume of lost goods accounts for 7 - 28%, all from the same port of Cat Lai and all are at the port for a period of time due to the delay of the ship.

Regarding this issue, immediately after receiving the dispatch from VPSA, on June 12, Saigon Newport Corporation responded in writing. According to Saigon Newport Corporation, the functional departments of the unit are currently working with competent authorities and agencies to verify the information about the shortage of goods provided by the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association.

Saigon Newport Corporation said that the risk of lost goods can occur at many stages, there is no basis to confirm that it occurs at the port. The flow of goods from the seller's warehouse to the buyer's warehouse, through stages in the supply chain such as: Sea transport, to the port of unloading, transport from the port to the importer's warehouse... needs to be verified to avoid misunderstandings as well as affecting the port's brand.

The fact that the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association posted information on its website... before receiving an accurate conclusion from the authorities could affect the reputation and brand of Saigon Newport Corporation.
