Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are among the top 200 global startup cities. This information was just shared by the Ministry of Science and Technology at the press conference of Vietnam Creative Startup Festival (TECHFEST) 2024.
On the morning of November 21, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) held a press conference to announce information about the Vietnam Innovation and Startup Festival (TECHFEST) 2024.
TECHFEST is an annual event chaired by the Ministry of Science and Technology, in coordination with ministries, branches, localities, and socio-political organizations.
After 9 years of organization, TECHFEST Vietnam has become an important event, attracting the attention of policy-making agencies, managers, businesses, creative startup support organizations, investment funds, etc., thereby connecting domestic and international resources for the Vietnamese creative startup ecosystem, contributing to affirming Vietnam's position on the global creative startup map.
TECHFEST 2024 will be held in Hai Phong city with the spirit of "Joining hands to develop Vietnam's creative startup ecosystem" to introduce, inspire and honor outstanding achievements of creative startup activities.
In 2024, Vietnam's innovative startup ecosystem ranked 56th in Startup Blink's Global Startup Ecosystem Index. Notably, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City entered the top 200 global startup cities.
Since 2017, Vietnam's Global Innovation Index (GII) has continuously improved, from 59th place (in 2016) to 44th in 2024. Vietnam's GII 2024 results have 3 leading indicators in the world, including for the first time the Creative Goods Export Index.
Venture capital in Vietnam tends to develop well, as shown by the index Number of venture capital deals improving from 77th in 2022 to 50th in 2024. The index Number of deals receiving venture capital increased from 54th in 2021 to 44th in 2024.
“ The Vietnamese innovative startup ecosystem has achieved certain results. However, there are also issues that need to be addressed in order to further develop startup organizations and individuals, thereby contributing to economic and social development, demonstrating Vietnam’s role in the international arena, ” said Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Hoang Minh.
Deputy Minister Hoang Minh stated that Vietnam's innovative startup ecosystem needs the joint coordination and consensus of ministries, branches, localities, domestically and internationally, for the development of the ecosystem and Vietnam.
According to Mr. Hoang Minh Cuong, Vice Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee, the city is honored to be chosen as the venue for TECHFEST 2024, an important event of the national creative startup ecosystem. Preparations for TECHFEST have been basically completed.
“ During the days of TECHFEST, a number of activities will take place in Hai Phong such as opening semiconductor chip training courses, launching the Hai Phong innovation and startup center, launching the Hai Phong city digital government project, organizing a green digital transformation forum to serve socio-economic development with the spirit of promoting innovation and application of digital technology, green digital transformation ”, said Mr. Hoang Minh Cuong.
