Gen Z prioritizes safety and security, Gen M likes cleanliness, and Gen X chooses affordable hotels, according to a survey by the booking app Booking.
According to the Asia-Pacific 2024 Resort Outlook Report (hotels, motels, resorts) published by Booking on April 1, in Vietnam, generations of tourists have diverse demands. 47% of survey participants belonging to Gen Z (1997-2012) prioritize choosing safe and secure resorts and 46% choose places with transparent prices, no additional fees or additional services. More than 20% of guests in this age group prefer unique types of resorts that offer opportunities for discovery experiences such as Glamping (luxury camping) and 18% prioritize destinations that accept guests with pets.

For Millennials (1981-1996), clean and tidy accommodation is the top priority with 58% of respondents choosing it, followed by affordable prices (57%) and safety and security (54%). Hotels with convenient locations such as near beaches, attractions, public transportation or beautiful scenery are also desired by 53% of respondents.
Millennials are also a generation that loves to explore and experience new things. Therefore, a vacation home near the beach or with access to the beach (25% of people choose), with a swimming pool and BBQ area (24%) or located on a hill or mountain, with few people living there (23%) are all aspects that are especially attractive to them.
For Generation X (1965-1980), reasonable price is an important factor (accounting for 53%), influencing the decision to choose a vacation home over other accommodations, followed by cleanliness (accounting for 48%). Generation X considers many other factors such as safety and security, transparent pricing, simple and quick booking process. In addition, 29% of respondents also love places to stay near the beach.
Although the top priorities of the three generations when choosing a hotel room are different, they all have in common the desire for a safe, clean, transparent and reliable place to stay. In addition, depending on each individual's expectations and travel preferences, they will look for a place with unique characteristics.
The survey was conducted in 7 countries including Vietnam, India, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Japan, and China with 11,000 owners and guests participating in answering about the booking preferences of each generation.
Varun Grover, Country Manager of Booking in Vietnam, said that nowadays, travelers are interested in more than just renting a place to stay. Vietnamese travelers are eager to find personalized experiences that suit their own preferences. Grover hopes that the resort report will help hoteliers and travelers better understand the preferences of each generation, thereby adjusting services and requests to suit each person.
