Over the past years, Gio Linh district has always paid attention to effectively implementing the socialization of physical education and sports (ST&S) to create more important resources to promote the widespread development of the sports movement and gradually improve quality from the district to the grassroots level.

Arriving at Gio An commune, we heard many people talk about Mr. Doan Van Dung, who invested more than 470 million VND to build a badminton training and competition house on an area of 150 m2, with a modern scale, fully covered, standard carpet, night lighting system and electric fans for the summer.
Along with opening a free badminton practice and competition house, each month, Mr. Dung spends from his own pocket to pay from 1.8 to 2 million VND for electricity and provides free filtered water for people who come to practice badminton. He also initiated the establishment of Linh An Badminton Club to maintain activities, practice and compete regularly for badminton lovers.
In addition, Mr. Dung also lends facilities and provides additional funding for many units, localities and people to organize many exchanges and sports competitions right at his badminton practice and competition house.
Thanks to Mr. Dung's practical work, the local sports movement and sports exchanges and competitions in the area have been promoted. In addition to his passion for badminton, Mr. Dung also regularly sponsors many school sports tournaments, volleyball and football tournaments organized by the locality and the people.
Recently, with the joint efforts and contributions of many individuals, businesses, and sports clubs, many grassroots sports tournaments have been organized in the form of socialized sports in Gio Linh district.
Mr. Tran Hai, Chairman of Billiards Club 68 (Gio Linh town) said that with the aim of creating a useful playground and connecting people who share the same passion for billiards, on April 6 and 7, 2024, Billiards Club 68 coordinated with the Center for Culture, Information (VHTT) - Sports and Tourism (STCT) of Gio Linh district to organize the Billiards Cader 47/2 Tournament of the Central - Central Highlands region for the "Unification of the Country" Cup in 2024 in the form of socialization.
The tournament gathered 76 players from 23 Billiards Clubs in Quang Tri and some provinces and cities in the Central Highlands to compete. Through this tournament, it has contributed to promoting the billiards movement to develop widely in Gio Linh district; at the same time, discovering and selecting young talents, new factors to train and foster as the core force of Gio Linh district billiards to participate in billiards tournaments in and outside the province with high results.
Director of Gio Linh District Culture, Sports and Physical Training Center Nguyen Xuan Hoan said that the socialization of physical training and sports has always been of interest to Gio Linh District People's Committee; directing agencies, departments, branches, and organizations at the district level, People's Committees of communes and towns to focus on propagating the Law on Physical Training and Sports and Resolution No. 05/NQ-CP dated April 15, 2005 of the Government on promoting the socialization of educational, medical, and physical training activities to promote and strengthen the work of mobilizing the socialization of mass physical training and sports activities, striving to create funding sources from units and enterprises in organizing annual sports tournaments.
At the same time, strengthen the inspection, supervision and evaluation of sports activities, focus on consolidating and improving the quality and efficiency of sports clubs; encourage people and businesses to organize sports tournaments in the form of socialization and pay attention to investing in facilities, equipment, training and competition tools... to create many useful playgrounds for people.
Currently, in Gio Linh district, there are 30 sports business establishments, including 2 sports business enterprises (Minh Tuan football field in Gio Linh town, Tay Do football field in Gio Son commune); 28 sports business households, including: 2 mini football fields, 3 swimming pools, 13 billiards facilities, 3 martial arts clubs, 2 fitness facilities, 3 badminton facilities, 1 table tennis facility.
Most of the agencies, departments, branches and organizations at the district level have volleyball and badminton courts. All communes and towns have volleyball and badminton courts...; 100% of communes and towns have mini football fields, 100% of villages and residential areas have volleyball courts. 100% of communes and towns have planned land for sports facilities. The whole district has more than 10 sports clubs that operate effectively, attracting a large number of people to participate in regular sports training.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hoan added that the movement “All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho” has been actively participated in by many civil servants, public employees, armed forces, students and people from all walks of life. Traditional sports such as boat racing, tug of war, stick pushing, swinging... are given attention, encouraged and organized annually with the support of the people.
The rate of population participating in regular physical training has increased over the years, reaching an estimated 42%, and the rate of families regularly practicing physical training has reached 31%. On average, about 10 sports tournaments are organized annually at the district level, about 30 sports tournaments are organized in communes and towns, and about 50 sports tournaments are organized by individuals and businesses. The district's Cultural, Sports and Physical Training Center has coordinated with many football clubs, traditional martial arts, badminton, karate clubs, etc. to participate in many provincial-level sports tournaments with high results.
