On April 2, 1975, we liberated Khanh Hoa province. The General Department of Politics issued a directive on political work in the face of a new strategic opportunity, mobilizing troops to rush forward to completely liberate the South.

On April 2, 1975, in Khanh Hoa, facing the strong offensive momentum of our army and people, the puppet civil servants and police in Nha Trang fled. Khanh Hoa sub-region and Dong De Non-Commissioned Officers School were abandoned. Generals of the 2nd Corps of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam found a way to escape. Soldiers opened fire and stole vehicles to escape to Cam Ranh.

At 5:00 p.m. the same day, after destroying the enemy's outposts at Ro Tuong Pass and Ru Ri Pass, under the guidance of the core force (sent by the City Executive Committee to Ninh Hoa to welcome the liberation army), the combined arms force of Division 10 loudly crossed Xom Bong Bridge and entered Nha Trang city. People from Dong De to Thong Tin House poured into the streets to welcome the revolutionary troops. On the afternoon of April 2, 1975, Khanh Hoa province was completely liberated.

In Lam Dong, with the help of revolutionary bases and local people, the main force of Military Region 6 marched to cross Dai Ninh bridge, Phi Nom bridge to liberate Tung Nghia town, Duc Trong district on the night of April 2, 1975. All enemy troops here quickly disintegrated, the Military Management Committee of Duc Trong district and Tung Nghia town was established, with comrade Nguyen Xuan Khanh as Chairman.

At the Chon Thanh-Route 13 battle, the enemy troops fleeing from this military sub-region were all stopped by us. The liberation army units all completed their assigned tasks. The local armed forces and the people coordinated with the main force to surround and capture the fleeing enemy. We liberated the Chon Thanh military sub-region, capturing and destroying many enemy vehicles and weapons.

On April 2, 1975, at Vinh An base of Military Region 7, Senior Lieutenant General Tran Van Tra assigned the task to the 4th Corps to deploy forces in two directions: east and southwest of Saigon; the 9th Division temporarily separated from the Corps, operating in the southwest direction in the formation of Group 232.

In Can Tho, on April 2, 1975, Regiment 2 of Division 4 of Military Region 9 inflicted heavy losses on a battalion of Regiment 33 of Division 21 of the Republic of Vietnam. On the same day, the enemy sent two more battalions to reinforce but then lost morale and retreated to Thoi Lai. Regiment 2 pursued, burned two M113 vehicles, and sank two warships on the O Mon-Thoi Lai River. On the night of April 2, 1975, Regiment 10 and Tay Do Battalion of Can Tho province attacked and destroyed two enemy companies and surrounded the Mot Ngan sub-region.

At Long Chau Ha, on April 2, 1975, Regiment 101 attacked the command post of Regiment 31, Division 21 of the Republic of Vietnam, causing heavy damage to the enemy. After that, the unit destroyed the remaining sub-region and two posts. We controlled a section of the Ha Tien-Rach Gia inter-provincial road.

In the Southwest, in early April 1975, Group 232 was supplemented with forces equivalent to the Corps level, including Divisions 3, 5, 9, Zone 8, and reinforced with a number of tank, artillery, and engineer units, preparing to cross the Vam Co Dong River and enter Saigon from the west and southwest.

At the General Headquarters, on April 2, 1975, after hearing the report on the liberation of Da Nang, General Vo Nguyen Giap instructed comrade Le Trong Tan - Deputy Chief of the General Staff: In addition to the task of conveying orders to Military Region 5 and the Navy Command, organize attacks to liberate the islands, especially the Truong Sa archipelago... According to surveys, there are prospects for large oil reserves here. With a strategic vision, it can be seen that the sea and ocean will be the main resource of mankind from the 21st century.

On the same day, the General Department of Politics sent telegrams to battlefields, military branches and arms to conduct political work in the face of new strategic opportunities, encouraging troops to rush to completely liberate the South.
