Airfares drop sharply after Tet

After the peak of Tet holiday, the transportation market, especially aviation and railway industry, is in the low season. Airline and train ticket prices are decreasing at this stage.

According to records, round-trip ticket prices for flights from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City on weekends (March 15-17) have decreased by 30-45%, even half of the price from December 2023 to February 29, 2024, ranging from 3.2-4.5 million VND/ticket.

After Tet, airfare prices decreased across the board.

Specifically, a round-trip economy class ticket from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City departing on March 19 and returning on March 22 on Vietjet Air costs VND3,150,000, on Bamboo Airway costs VND3,387,000, on Vietravel Airlines costs VND3,429,000 and on Vietnam Airlines costs VND4,585,000.

According to forecasts, domestic airfare prices will continue to decrease from the first week of April until before the April 30 - May 1 holidays.

During the first weekends of April, ticket prices on tourist routes also recorded a sharp decrease. Round-trip tickets from Hanoi to Nha Trang, Da Lat, and Phu Quoc cost from 3.4 million VND, 3.5 million VND, and 3.6 million VND, respectively.

In addition, airlines are also implementing the biggest ticket price promotion program of the year, such as: Welcome Summer 2024 of Vietnam Airlines with domestic flat-rate promotion from only 1,099,000 VND/leg (including taxes and fees) to go to many attractive tourist destinations.

In addition, round-trip flights from Vietnam to international destinations are also offered at preferential prices, with the lowest price starting from only VND 4,300,000 (including taxes and fees).

Fares for domestic and international flights in this program include taxes and fees, and are applicable to flights departing from April 5 - December 28, 2024, with conditions applicable for some peak periods.

According to experts, the reason for the sharp drop in airfares is that the domestic market is entering a low season, and people's travel demand is decreasing. However, the "reasonable" price above is only from now until the end of April. Entering the April 30 holiday to the end of August, airfares will increase again due to high travel demand during the holidays and summer.

Railway industry reduces train ticket prices up to 30%

Not only airfares, Thong Nhat train fares are reduced by up to 30% during the low season of 2024 when purchased far in advance of the departure date. According to information from Hanoi Railway Transport Joint Stock Company, from now until April 24 and from May 2 to May 16, the Railway industry will apply many discount policies.

The Railway industry is still applying a discount policy for social policy beneficiaries such as Vietnamese heroic mothers, repatriated martyrs' remains, war invalids, people infected with toxic chemicals, etc.

Passengers who buy individual tickets for the Thong Nhat SE1/SE2, SE5/SE6 trains from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City and vice versa 5-9 days before departure will receive a 5% discount on the ticket price, 10-19 days in advance will receive a 10% discount, 20-39 days in advance will receive a 20% discount, 40 days or more in advance will receive a 40% discount. The condition is that the ticket must have a travel distance of 900km or more.

For passenger trains on the Hanoi - Hai Phong route, the railway industry continues to apply preferential policies for monthly tickets and group tickets.

Specifically, for passenger trains on the Hanoi - Hai Phong route, passengers can buy monthly tickets for 550,000 VND/ticket/month, traveling by train between Hanoi, Long Bien, Gia Lam, Cam Giang, Hai Duong stations or between Cam Giang, Hai Duong, Phu Thai, Thuong Ly, Hai Phong stations.

With a ticket of 800,000 VND/ticket/month, passengers can travel by train between stations in Hanoi, Long Bien, Gia Lam, Cam Giang, Hai Duong, Phu Thai, Thuong Ly, Hai Phong.

Passengers traveling in groups, with discount codes 3TANG1 (buy 3 tickets, get 1 extra ticket) and 6TANG2 (buy 6 tickets, get 2 extra tickets), can save 85,000 - 125,000 VND one way for a trip of 4 people or save 170,000 - 250,000 VND one way for a trip of 8 people.

Saigon Railway Transport Joint Stock Company also applies many discount programs of up to 30% when passengers buy tickets 5 days or more before departure date, they will get a discount of 5 - 30% on ticket price; passengers buying group tickets of 5 people or more will get a discount of 2 - 14% on ticket price; passengers buying round-trip tickets will also get a 10% discount on return ticket price. At the same time, it implements discount programs for passengers with customer cards, union members, passengers traveling on their birthdays.
